NEW DELHI, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- The recovery rate of COVID-19 patients in India Thursday increased to 97.63 percent, the country's federal health ministry said, with 31,788,440 patients having been cured.
According to the health ministry, the constant increase in recoveries has ensured the reduction in actual caseload as the country has been witnessing a continuous fall in active cases.
"The country's active caseload today stands at 333,725," the ministry said. "34,159 patients recovered during last 24 hours and active cases are now only 1.02 percent of the country's total positive cases."
During the last 24 hours, 46,164 fresh positive cases and 607 deaths were reported in the country.
Officials said while testing has been enhanced across the country, a continued decline in weekly case positivity is noticed.
"Weekly positivity rate remains below 3 percent for last 62 days, currently at 2.02 percent," the ministry said. "Daily positivity rate at 2.58 percent, less than 3 percent for last 31 days."
The national Case Fatality Rate (CFR) at present is 1.34 percent.
Meanwhile, the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) Wednesday morning said a cumulative total of 513,129,378 COVID-19 tests have been carried out so far and on Wednesday alone 1,787,283 samples were tested.
The inoculation drive against COVID-19 is presently underway and so far over 603 million COVID-19 jabs have been administered with 8,040,407 doses on Wednesday.
The Indian government aims to vaccinate the entire population above the age of 18 by the end of this year.
Experts said the country needs to administer over 10 million doses a day to achieve its aim of inoculating the adult population by December.
The number of COVID-19 cases in the country has reached 32,558,530 and the death toll has risen to 436,365 on Thursday morning.
