India: Trains put brakes as wet tracks stopped signalling system

Kanpur: Several trains did not move due to waterlogged tracks on the Delhi-Howrah route. The Signal Operating System thus stopped functioning.

Owing to heavy rains on Monday, Rajadhani Express, Toofan Express, Durg Express, Lucknow Shatabdi, and Delhi bound trains stood standstill.

According to available reports, Durg Express halted at Kanpur Central for about two hours. Likewise, other trains too got affected.

The trains that were stopped at the outer line led the passengers anguished.

In the meantime, the railways engineering department team repaired the signalling system at about 9 p.m. Thereafter the trains were let to move on.

The RPF personnel and GRP staff managed the chaos at the platform. They informed the passengers of waterlogging on the tracks.

It was also arranged to give the signal to the VIP trains through a manual system. But its pace was not fast, slow velocity was maintained as a precaution.

The trains began to be delayed one after another. Even the goods trains were reported to be late.

The railways kept the passengers updated that did not lose the passengers' composure.
