India shows lowest daily increase in COVID-19 cases in 70 days

NEW DELHI, June 12. /TASS/: Over the past day, doctors in India registered 84,332 new coronavirus cases, the total number of cases during the pandemic in the country reached 29,359,155. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said on Saturday, the number of deaths increased by 4,002 in 24 hours and reached 367,081.

The daily increase in the number of cases was the lowest in 70 days - since April 2, when 81,466 new coronavirus cases were announced. For five days in a row, India has reported less than 100,000 new cases. From April 5 to June 8, the daily number of new cases exceeded 100,000, in May this figure exceeded 400,000 five times, the record was set on May 7 with 414,188 cases.

According to the country’s Ministry of Health, over the past 24 hours, 121,311 patients have recovered from COVID-19, the total number of recovered patients was 27,911,384. Meanwhile, 1,080,690 patients are being treated on Saturday morning, which is 40,981 less than a day earlier.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) said on Saturday that 719 doctors and paramedics have died in India due to the coronavirus in a second wave of the pandemic that began in March.

In late December 2019, Chinese officials informed the World Health Organization (WHO) about the outbreak of a previously unknown pneumonia in the city of Wuhan, in central China. Since then, cases of the novel coronavirus - named COVID-19 by the WHO - have been reported in every corner of the globe, including Russia. On March 11, 2020, the WHO declared the coronavirus outbreak a pandemic.
