Iran's FM slams U.S. for selling advanced weapons to Israel amid intensified conflicts

Javad Zarif

TEHRAN, May 18 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif criticized on Monday the United State for selling advanced weapons to Israel amid the intense bombardment on the Gaza Strip.

Zarif, on his Twitter account, said the United States sold Israel "precision" missiles to "kill more children with more precision."

The foreign minister was referring to an earlier report by the Washington Post claiming the Biden administration greenlighted the sale of precision-guided weapons to Israel, worth 735 million U.S. dollars.

The newspaper said that the U.S. Congress was notified of the decision on May 5, around a week earlier before the confrontation between Israel and Gaza broke out.

Calling the United States the "enabler" of Israel, Zarif also accused the United States of blocking the UN Security Council to pass a statement on the conflicts.

The ongoing tension, the worst violence between Israel and the besieged Palestinian enclave since 2014, has killed 212 Palestinians, including 61 children, and 10 Israelis.
