08 May 2021; MEMO: Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi announced on Friday that Israeli aggression on Palestinian families in Sheikh Jarrah and trying to expel them from their homes "is playing with fire."
In a series of tweets posted on Twitter, he condemned: "Israeli illegal and provocative measures in occupied Jerusalem, including the inhumane threat of eviction of Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah from their homes, are pushing tension to dangerous limits. Jerusalem is a red line. This is playing with fire."
He stressed that the: "Palestinians threatened with eviction in Sheikh Jarrah are the rightful owners of their homes as documents provided by Jordan to the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and homeowners prove beyond doubt. As the occupying power, Israel is legally responsible for ensuring that these ownership rights are protected."
The Jordanian foreign minister also pressed for: "Effective and swift international action to prevent the crime of evicting Palestinians from their homes in Sheikh Jarrah."
At the same time, he hailed a statement issued by several Western governments calling for Israel to stop its settlement in the occupied West Bank.
"We welcome the statement by France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Britain urging Israel to stop settlement building in occupied West Bank," he wrote.
He added: "Settlement building and expansion, confiscation of lands, demolition of houses and evicting Palestinians from their homes are all illegal measures that consolidate occupation and undermine prospects for just, lasting and comprehensive peace which is a regional and global necessity."
