Palestine’s Fatah Movement Dismisses Senior Party Member

RAMALLAH, Mar 12 (NNN-WAFA) – Palestine’s Fatah movement, yesterday dismissed a senior member from the ruling party and its central committee, over his violation of internal rules.

The dismissal came, days after Nasser al-Qudwa announced his intention to form an independent electoral list, under the name of the National Democratic Forum, in the legislative elections, scheduled on May 22.

“During the last Fatah central committee meeting, held in Ramallah three days ago, al-Qudwa was given 24 hours to withdraw his declared position, to form an independent list,” an official statement said, accusing al-Qudwa of “bypassing Fatah’s internal rules and undermining the unity of Fatah.”

“After all efforts were made in the last three days, the committee decided to dismiss him, and this decision is valid from today,” the statement said.

Last week, Jibril Rjoub, secretary-general of Fatah’s Central Committee, said, Fatah is going to run in the upcoming legislative elections, in one electoral list.

Al-Qudwa, born in 1953, has been a member of the Fatah Central Committee since 2009. He is the nephew of the late Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat, the founder of the party.

In Jan, Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, also head of the Fatah movement, announced, the 2021 general elections will include legislative elections on May 22, presidential elections on July 31, and the Palestinian National Council elections on Aug 31.

The last Palestinian presidential elections were held in Mar, 2005, and the legislative elections in Jan, 2006.
