KANPUR: A very exceptional scene came up when the city’s mayor Pramilla Pandey sat on a simple rickshaw to attend a programme organised at Green Park here on Thursday. It became a talk of the town. Not only the Kanpur Municipal Corporation officials but Kanpur Development Authority officials were also discussed over this interesting ride.
Dressed in her saffron sari and sweater with an indigenous scarf she was feeling quite at ease in common man’s traditional means of transportation.
Prior to opting for this rickshaw ride, she addressed a Press conference at the Nagar Nigam’s Head office here. She told she had been provided with a car officially but it was not serviced by the company’s service centre. It refused to service the vehicle due to non-payment of earlier two-time dues by the Nigam.
When she inquired about this matter, the KMC’s accounts officer let her know of the lack of fund for the repairing. Expressing her deep anger at this answer she began to think of the poor situation. Did she say: Was there no funds even to pay for the vehicle’s servicing?
Criticising the district administration she maintained that she was not provided police during her Wednesday’s anti-encroachment drive in Gwal Toli locality here. She was said to have made a complaint with the state’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in this regard. Her endeavours to make the city free from jam and encroachments fail because of non-availability of civil police.
