Iran's top leader vows support for Palestinian cause

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

TEHRAN, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Monday that the Islamic republic will spares no efforts to support the Palestinian cause, official IRNA news agency reported.

"The Palestinian resistance has been able to thwart the U.S. and Israeli plots," Khamenei wrote in response to a letter of Ismail Haniyeh, politburo chief of Hamas movement.

"They decided to continue their expansionist goals through economic pressure and laying siege on Gaza Strip," he said, adding that they have also resorted to "the trick of negotiation and peace plan" between Israel and Palestine.

However, "the resistance and the people of Palestine will not yield to their threats and extortion ..., and they (the Palestinians) will tread the path of honor and pride," the Iranian leader's letter was cited as reading.

Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf reiterated the country's support for the Palestinian cause Thursday in a telephone conversation with Haniyeh. Enditem
