KANPUR: A speeding daggamaar (illegally plying) bus collided with a motorbike in Ghatampur area on Sunday. The bike rider Raju Verma,(35 years) a Halwai by profession died on the spot while as many as 20 bus passengers were injured. Besides, half a dozen passengers were reported to have been seriously injured.
Hearing the wailings and shrieks of the bus passengers the villagers rushed for immediate to the accident spot and dragged the passengers trapped into the overturned bus. The police said that injured passengers were sent to the community health centre. The bike rider died on the spot. Later, the crane was used to pull out the overturned bus.
It is also learnt that the bus runs from the city’s Baradevi to Jehanabad. On Sunday morning the bus taking the passengers moved for Jehanabad. At about 9 am the bus arrived at Gadrian Pul near Rind River Bridge, an approaching bike came in front and collided badly. The bus driver attempted to save the bike rider but could not succeed. Uncontrolled bus after collision overturned thereby injuring the passengers very seriously.
