KANPUR: In the wake of a viral video of the prisoners at Rai Bareilly jail, the state government has ordered checking of the district jails. Following the order, the DIG along with his team checked the district jail here on Sunday evening. The inspection continued for almost three hours.
Among several irregularities what irked the high-ranking police officer the most was the dirtiness prevailing around the barrack. Disciplining the jail staff he instructed them to remain careful about the cleanliness outside the barracks.
After all, the prisoners, too have a right to live at the unspoiled place, he stated.
Besides, he did not fail to direct the staff that the prisoners should secure every facility according to the jail manual. He listened to the prisoners' problems attentively.
Also, the barrack accommodating the women prisoners was also checked and they were enquired of any kind of oppression being faced by them in the jail. Checking continued at every corner of the jail. Each barrack was checked and confirmed with an absence of prohibited items.
Fairly famous Barrack no 13 was also searched carefully but neither cigarettes nor bidis nor gutkha was found there. The officer along with his team in five vehicles reached the jail. Incidentally, the staff had already left after checking night duty of the jail guards.
