India: Consumers' hardship at power sub-station in Jajmau

Kanpur: Despite two counters at a power sub-station in Jajmau the consumers have to encounter an unpleasant ordeal. On both the counters there remained a long queue of the anxious consumers. They continued to stand and waited to deposit the bill in cash but what dashed their hope was sudden closure of the counters at 2 p.m. On enquiry it was later learnt to them that the window closed because of the lunchtime.

The consumers who rushed to sub-station were not aware of the fact that they will have to deposit the hiked security amount. It is only after then their monthly bill would be deposited. So after killing so many long minutes while standing in the queue, they returned disappointingly. One middle-aged veiled lady felt quite odd at this as she was unaware of it. She even produced her bill amount to the counter clerk but it was rejected by saying get the registration done first. She returned with a confused mind. Like her several consumers returned.

Though two deposit counters are arranged the lady depositors did not show interest in depositing the bill at the newer counter. It will save their time but they prefer to deposit the bill through the old counter. Reacting on the delay in depositing the bill they said the electricity department did not arrange separate counter for the female consumers. This was important as they leave the house to deposit the bill under certain compulsions.
