Kanpur: Much awaited work on the metro is now starting from October 7 (Monday). The drilling machines have already been placed near the national institute of sugar technology in Kalyanpur here.

As many as three drilling machines were positioned at the spot by the Company entrusted to initiate the metro track work. The soil testing has already been completed. The drilling on the ground will start to raise the pillar.

Conducting the spot inspection the LMRC project manager Arvind Singh said it was a must prior to beginning the work. He was assisted with the company officials looking after the metro track work and the IIT experts.

For raising the pillars, qualified engineers from Kolkatta have been brought. They also made the spot inspection.

The main hurdle in this work is the removal of illegal encroachments on the way of the proposed metro line near IIT, Rawatpur railway station and Kalyanpur areas. Owing to the waterlogged field of Polytechnic, the demolition work could not start. Two hostel buildings have been so far demolished for constructing metro yard and depot. Debris disposal is in fast speed.
