India: Electrocution led to ruckus in city' s Talaq Mahal area

Kanpur: A shopkeeper and one ex-gang man of the power department were electrocuted near Talaq Mahal here on Friday late night. The flow of electric current was so powerful that the man pulled on to the cable box.

The area people were shocked to learn of his death and created a ruckus. The police and the PAC reached on the spot. The police got the dead body into possession after giving assurance of compensation.

In the meantime, the area people took the power sub-station team into hostage and overturned the official jeep.

The ADM(city) Vivek Srivastava and SSP Anantdev Tiwari assured Amitabh Bajpai and Irfan Solanki, both MLAs to help the aggrieved family of 38-year-old Munne Khan who died in the electrocution. It was only then the situation returned nearly normal. But it was also reported if the wire was not found to be below standard there would be no chance of compensation. If a flaw is detected in the probe action against JE and the contractor would be initiated.

The crowd not only indulged into rudeness but looted the camera of a meadiaman covering the incident. 

The SSP said that action would be taken against the hooligans after identifying them. On the application of family members of the dead ones a report will be registered. The electric current caused the death.

Even Kesco MD Saumya Agarwal stated that the electric current led to death. While Amitabh Bajpai made the contractors responsible for the laxity being observed in the laying of underground cable. The post-mortem reports would pave the way for further course of action, he maintained.
