India: Defunct signal system in city areas irks ADG

Kanpur: A sum of Rs 26400 was collected in vehicle checking drive conducted under the supervision of ADG, Police at various places here on Thursday. 

The high-ranking police officer was making all efforts to bring improvements in the city's traffic system. Showing concern at defunct signal lights on the city's  busy crossings, he directed his subordinates to take necessary steps.

The departments concerned were needed to be made aware of the flaws. He inspected the condition of signal lights at Baradevi, Bara Chauraha, Phoolbagh, Moti Jheel, Juhi and other places. 

The SP (Traffic) told him that the failure in signal light blinking happened owing to the rains. The power supply had been disrupted in the showers taking place in the city. Thereupon he directed him to forward a letter to the Nagar Nigam. Side by side he also asked to correct the discrepancies in ITMS. For this purpose the KDA should be approached. 

As many as 233 two-wheelers were challaned against the drivers not wearing helmet. A total of 103 owners were booked for not using seatbelt in their four-wheeled vehicle.
