India: STPs inspected, necessary directives given

Kanpur: Expressing annoyance at non-functional two motors and electronic panels of 5 MLD Wazidpur STP during his inspection here on Friday, the Principal Secretary (Urban Development) Manoj Singh directed the officials to make its function in accordance with the set standard.

As the new 20 MLD common effluent treatment plant to cleanse tannery's polluted water prior to falling into the Ganga river has to be constructed, he maintained that the old STP should be repaired and new unit should be established on the open space available on the campus.

This announcement gave enough relief to the 16 employees working at the STP.

He also made an inspection of 15 MLD Baniyapurwa STP which was not functioning owing to delay in power connection. In at least ten days the KESCo would connect the electricity supply as Project manager of Jal Nigam has also said that the power supply would be connected by July 20.
