India: City's crossings to get uplift for smooth traffic

Kanpur: To improve city's traffic system as many as 26 crossings have been chosen for issuance of the Challan directly. The work on fixing timer has also been ordered. The KDA will bear the expenses on this facility. No anarchy will be allowed on the roads.  Encroachment will not be tolerated at any cost. Helmet for the two-wheelers and seat belt for the cars will remain a must.

A total of 68 crossings will obtain electricity connection. The contractor setting up the signal lights will have to look after the maintenance for five years. Afterwards the Nagar Nigam will see the maintenance. These directives were given by the divisional commissioner at his camp office meeting on Tuesday. 

He also directed the regional transport officers to take strict action against erring e-rickshaw and tempo drivers. A total of five thousand permit of Autos & Tempos have already been cancelled while twelve thousand registered e-rickshaws were plying on the road, according to the news reports. 

The Commissioner further directed the officials to complete data feeding of the vehicle owners so that they could be informed of the Challan through the SMS on the vehicle owner's mobile set.
