BANGKOK (AP) — The United States and the Philippines are conducting joint air and maritime patrols in the South China Sea, which come as the two countries step up cooperation in the face of growingly aggressive Chinese activity in the area.

The Philippine Air Force said Wednesday its aircraft had taken part in joint patrols the day before in the vicinity of Batanes, the northernmost province of the Philippines, which is only about 200 kilometers (125 miles) from Taiwan, a self-governed island that China claims as its own.

South Korea partially suspends inter-Korean agreement after North says it put spy satellite in orbit

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korea will partially suspend an inter-Korean agreement Wednesday to restart frontline aerial surveillance of North Korea, after the North said it launched a military spy satellite in violation of United Nations bans, Seoul officials said.

The South Korean announcement — which will likely infuriate North Korea — came hours after the North claimed to have placed a military reconnaissance satellite into orbit in its third such launch attempt this year.

BEIJING, Nov 20 (APP): China supports the diplomatic efforts by Arab and Islamic countries to de-escalate the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli conflict, said Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Monday.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during talks with a delegation consisting of Arab and Islamic foreign ministers in Beijing, CGTN reported.

Azerbaijan stated its reasons for refusing peace negotiations with Armenia in the US

BAKU, Nov 19 (NNN-AGENCIES) –Azerbaijan refused to participate in normalization negotiations with Armenia that were planned in the US this month because of what Baku considered Washington’s “biased” view.

“We consider it impossible to hold the proposed meeting at the level of Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia in Washington on Nov 20, 2023,” Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Myanmar: Ship Fire In Yangon Kills Two

YANGON, Nov 20 (NNN-MNA) – Two people were killed and three others injured, when a ship, docked behind a steel factory, in Insein township in Yangon, caught fire, an official from a rescue organisation said, yesterday.

After the fire was extinguished, on the double-decker ship, carrying cement, two dead bodies were found inside the ship’s oil storage tank, U Thurein Tun said, adding that, 15 rescue organisations came to the scene for rescue operations.

Malaysian Gov’t Warns At-Risk Communities To Brace For Floods

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 (NNN-BERNAMA) – Heavy rain and flooding are expected in Peninsula Malaysia’s east coast states of Kelantan and Terengganu, in the coming days, with authorities yesterday, warning those at risk, to take precautions.

Those in high-risk areas have also been asked to comply with instructions from the authorities, as federal disaster relief agencies take steps to prepare for severe continuous rains, Deputy Prime Minister, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said in a statement.

Philippines woos neighbours to craft code on South China Sea

MANILA, Nov 20 (Reuters) - The Philippines has approached neighbours such as Malaysia and Vietnam to discuss a separate code of conduct regarding the South China Sea, its president said on Monday, citing limited progress towards striking a broader regional pact with China.

Relations between the two have grown more tense under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr, who has increasingly complained about China's "aggressive" behaviour while rekindling strong ties with the Philippines' sole treaty ally, the United States.
