Underlying problems of modern democracy, particularly the insidious and subtle manipulation of the masses by government, corporate and fascist regimes, is the accomplice role played by the mainstream media.
Unfortunately, major news outlets, often due to their financial situations, either began to see journalism differently or were influenced to do so. It has fallen into a pattern of groupthink on issue after issue, often ignoring important factual information because it doesn’t fit with what all the Important People (controllers) want to be seen as true. It became their strange duty to shut down questioning of the Official Story/Narrative, even when the Official Story had major holes and made little sense, even when the evidence went in a different direction and serious analysts were disputing the groupthink.
There are almost always two sides to a story and often more. We are expected to seek out those alternative views, not dismiss them or pretend they don’t exist. We should know that finding the truth often requires digging beneath the surface and not just picking up the convenient explanation sitting out in the open.
We are seeing the main-stream media, specially the commercial TV channels, engaging in a self-inflicted blindness that has left the citizens blind as well. This dilemma – this crisis in democracy – has made the role of news outlets like UMMnews even more essential today than it may have been in 1990s.
We believe that all current, viable political parties in many countries – especially English speaking West, and the main-stream media there, are in service to their controllers, and do not represent the people.
Something had to be done. If nothing is done, the society we live in will change back to master-slave system, like it used to be.
Its in that context UMMnews vision was borne - a very small step that may, and should, lead to a giant leap for the future of humanity – with your support of-course.

It tells you both sides of the story. It presents selected and ‘sanitised’ news, sourced from reliable news agencies. It also presents news submitted by people like me and you. It’s a portal where WE are the Reporter and WE are the Reader. Editors check the quality, authenticity and correctness of the news before its published.
UMMnews retains full authority over editorial content, maintaining a firewall between news coverage decisions and the pursuit of revenue. Our journalism is free from commercial bias and not influenced by billionaire owners, politicians or shareholders. No one edits our editors. No one steers our opinion. This is important as it enables us to give a voice to those less heard, challenge the powerful and hold them to account. It’s what makes us different to so many others in the media, at a time when factual, honest reporting is critical.

The corporate structure of UMMnews consists of one that does not give ownership of the organisation to one person or family. UMMnews is an organisation ‘owned’ by its dedicated volunteers. This is why we call UMMnews a global family. Dedicated volunteers progress through to a local, state and country level coordination body, and then to a Board that leads the UMMnews.
UMMnews is proud to be distinguished from others, not just as an independent news portal but also as a community that is formed with an ultimate purpose to facilitate the formation of a global community that is peaceful, and is built upon equal justice for all, regardless of the race or religion. It also stands for those deprived, exploited, victimised, sidelined, disadvantaged, manipulated and treated unfairly.
