PM, Qatari Amir discuss mutually beneficial cooperation, economic opportunities

DOHA, March 5 (APP): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on Sunday discussed a wide array of mutually beneficial issues and exchanged views to further strengthen the excellent cooperation between the two countries in diverse fields including in the economic and investment sectors.

During a meeting, the prime minister appreciated Qatar’s consistent support to the development projects in Pakistan and highlighted the vast opportunities of cooperation between the two countries.

Qatar: UN development chief sounds alarm over debt distress facing 52 countries

DOHA, March 5 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A top UN official has warned that “urgent” measures are needed to help 52 countries facing debt repayment problems that put some at risk of default.

Achim Steiner, head of the United Nations Development Programme, said that 25 of the 52 were spending more than a fifth of government revenues servicing external debt.

UN House inaugurated in Qatar

5 Mar 2023; MEMO: Officials inaugurated the UN House in Lusail, Qatar on Saturday, bringing together various UN agencies in one building, reports Anadolu Agency.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Qatari Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani said the opening of the UN House is a positive step for the cooperation between Qatar and the international organization.

Qatar Red Crescent ready for reconstruction of earthquake areas in Turkiye

23 Feb 2023; MEMO: Mohamed Salah, a senior official of the Qatar Red Crescent, said they are seeking funding to initiate reconstruction activity in the earthquake-hit zone of Turkiye and Syria, Anadolu News Agency reports.

In an interview with Anadolu, Salah stressed the need for concerted efforts by the international community to mitigate the effects of the earthquake that occurred in Turkiye and northern Syria.

Qatar says all capabilities at Turkiye's disposal in wake of earthquake disaster

14 Feb 2023; MEMO: Qatar said it has mobilised all capabilities to help the victims of last week's twin deadly earthquakes that struck Turkiye and Syria.

"Qatar has put all its capabilities at the disposal of the brothers in Turkiye to support them after the earthquake disaster," Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari told Anadolu.

"The world faces a major humanitarian catastrophe in Turkiye and Syria. This is a real test for all humanity," he added.

The figure for last month stood at 230.026 billion Qatari Riyals ($63.18bn), compared with QR209.932bn ($57.66bn) in December 2021.

Qatar condemns Israel's plan to expand settlements in occupied West Bank

31 Dec 2022; MEMO: Qatar's Foreign Ministry on Friday condemned the new Israeli government's plans to expand settlements in the occupied West Bank and its "attempts to Judaise" Jerusalem.

In a statement, Qatar expressed: "Its strong condemnation and denunciation of the Israeli government's plans for settlement expansion and its continued attempts to Judaise Al-Quds and Al-Aqsa Mosque."

Qatar recycled 80% of waste from FIFA World Cup stadiums

28 Dec 2022; MEMO: Qatar announced yesterday that it had recycled about 80 per cent of the waste from the stadiums that hosted the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, Anadolu reported.

In a statement, the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), which is responsible for the delivery of the required infrastructure to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, revealed that more than 2,000 tonnes of waste was generated during the tournament, which were recycled or converted into organic fertiliser.
