India: Preacher Amritpal surrenders in Punjab's Moga, arrested, to be sent to Asssam's Dibrugarh jail

Chandigarh, Apr 23 (PTI) Radical preacher Amritpal Singh was arrested in Punjab's Moga district on Sunday, more than a month after the state police launched a crackdown against him following the storming of the Ajnala police station by his supporters to secure the release of an arrested associate.

India: Akal Takht Jathedar gives 24-hr ultimatum for release of Sikhs held following crackdown on Amritpal Singh

Amritsar, Mar 27 (PTI) Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpeet Singh on Monday gave a 24-hour ultimatum to the state government to release all Sikh youths who were held during the police crackdown against radical preacher Amritpal Singh and his aides.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said he has asked the director general of police to release those who were taken into preventive custody and their involvement to any anti-national activity was not found.

India: AK-47 rifles, pistols recovered by BSF along border in Punjab

New Delhi, Dec 11 (PTI) A cache of arms and ammunition, including two AK-47 assault rifles, was recovered by Border Security Force (BSF) troops on Sunday along the India-Pakistan International Border in Punjab, officials said.

The recovery was made around 12 noon.

Two AK-47 rifles and four magazines apart from two pistols and four magazines and some cartridges were recovered by BSF personnel during checks in the Abohar sector of Punjab, a senior officer said. PTI NES.

India: Terror module busted in Punjab ahead of Independence Day

Chandigarh, Aug 14 (PTI) Ahead of Independence Day, the Punjab Police on Sunday claimed to have busted a Pakistan ISI-backed terror module and arrested four persons.

Three hand grenades, one IED (improvised explosive device), two pistols and 40 cartridges were recovered, it added.

The operation was carried out jointly by the Punjab Police and the Delhi Police.

India: Punjab Health Minister Vijay Singla removed from cabinet

Chandigarh, May 24 (PTI) Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Tuesday said he has shunted out Health Minister Vijay Singla from the state cabinet.

Mann said he took the decision after learning that the minister was allegedly demanding one percent commission for tenders.

Police have been directed to register a case against him.

I am taking strict action against the minister. I am removing him from the cabinet, the chief minister said in a video message.

India: BJP leader Bagga's arrest stayed till July 6 by HC

Chandigarh, May 10 (PTI) In a reprieve for BJP leader Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga, the Punjab and Haryana High Court on Tuesday stayed his arrest till July 6 in a case of allegedly making provocative statements, promoting enmity and criminal intimidation.

No coercive action will be taken against Bagga till July 6 when the case will come up for hearing next, Additional Solicitor General Satya Pal Jain, who appeared on behalf of the Delhi Police, said after the court heard the matter.

India: Two held for links with terrorists arrested from Karnal

Ferozepur, May 6 (PTI) The Punjab Police on Friday claimed to have nabbed two alleged accomplices of the four suspected Pakistan-linked terrorists, who were arrested with explosives in Haryana's Karnal.

The two arrested have been identified as Akashdeep Singh, alias Akash (25), a resident of Peerke village; and Jashanpreet Singh, alias Jass (19), a resident of Faridkot, police said.
