In Biden and Buttigieg, Dems confront generational divide

LACONIA, N.H. (AP) — Amy McInerney at first saw Joe Biden as Democrats’ best hope to beat President Donald Trump — an experienced politician with the potential to peel off some of Trump’s working-class supporters. Then she heard Pete Buttigieg speak.

“I felt like Pete more represented my generation,” said McInerney, 33, as she held her 6-month-old daughter, who sported a pink “Buttigieg 2020″ onesie. “There need to be voices that are younger represented.”

Williamson warns US elections could become more like Iran’s

DOVER, N.H. (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Marianne Williamson on Friday warned that American elections could become more like voting in countries like Iran.

Speaking at a campaign event in Dover, New Hampshire, the author described an “illusion of choice,” and criticized the “political media elite establishment. It’s a corporate establishment.”

“And they will not only tell us what we’re supposed to talk about,” she said. “They will tell us who we’re supposed to choose to even choose between in terms of voting.”

Sen. Kamala Harris says she’s no democratic socialist

PORTSMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris said Monday she’s not a democratic socialist, a not-so-veiled distinction setting her apart from New Hampshire voters’ favorite 2016 primary candidate, Sen. Bernie Sanders.

Sanders, a potential rival for the party’s 2020 nomination, has described himself as a democratic socialist, and the Vermont independent didn’t abandon the politically fraught label for his previous campaign.
