India: Manipur CM tests positive for COVID-19

Imphal, Nov 15 (PTI) Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday said that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

The chief minister requested all who came in close contact with him in the last few days to get themselves tested.

Taking to Facebook, the chief minister said, "Friends, I have tested COVID positive today after having some symptoms... I am fine at the moment."

The chief minister is undergoing home isolation, a health department official said.

India: Manipur bypolls: BJP wins 3 seats, Independent 1

Imphal, Nov 10 (PTI) The BJP won all three Assembly constituencies where the party contested in the by-elections in Manipur, while an Independent candidate backed by the saffron camp secured one seat, the results of which were announced on Tuesday, officials said.

In a closely fought bypoll in Wangoi seat, ruling BJP's candidate Oinam Lukhoi Singh defeated coalition partner National People's Party nominee Khuraijam Loken Singh by 257 votes.

IndiaL BJP candidate elected unopposed in Manipur bypoll

Imphal, Oct 23 (PTI) BJP candidate Ginsuanhau was on Friday elected unopposed in the by-election at the Singhat assembly constituency in Manipur's Churachandpur district, officials said.

He was declared unopposed after Independent nominee Chinlunthang withdrew his candidature on Thursday, they said.

Ginsuanhau won the seat during the state election in 2017 as a Congress candidate.

India: Six Congress MLAs in Manipur resign

Imphal, Aug 11 (PTI) Six Congress MLAs in Manipur have submitted their resignation to the speaker, party legislator O Henry Singh said on Tuesday.

They are among the eight Congress MLAs who defied a party whip on Monday and skipped the one-day session of the assembly, in which the BJP-led N Biren Singh government won a facile vote of confidence.

India: Four NPP ministers resign from BJP-led govt in Manipur

Imphal, Jun 17 (PTI) Four National People's Party (NPP) ministers including Deputy Chief Minister Y JoyKumar Singh resigned from the BJP-led government in Manipur on Wednesday.

The other three who tendered their resignation letters are Tribal and Hills Area Development Minister N Kayishii, Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Letpao Haokip and Health and Family Welfare Minister L Jayanta Kumar Singh.

Joykumar Singh also held the finance portfolio.

India: BJP coalition partner Dy CM of Manipur Yumnam Joykumar stripped of portfolios

Imphal, Apr 9 (PTI) Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh was stripped of his portfolios on Thursday.

The Governor of Manipur on the advice of Chief Minister N Biren Singh reallocated the portfolios, according to an order issued by chief secretary J Suresh Babu.

India: Woman raped in Manipur, one arrested

Imphal, Apr 5 (PTI) A 21-year-old man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping a woman in Manipur's Thoubal district, police said.

Based on a complaint lodged by the woman, the accused, who hails from Tripura, was arrested from Moidangpok area, Superintendent of Police S Ibomcha said.

The woman alleged that she was raped by the accused, a driver by profession, on Saturday evening, the officer said.

A case has been registered and investigation started, he added.

India: Prohibitory order clamped in Manipur's Moreh town

Imphal, Mar 14 (PTI) Prohibitory orders under section 144 Crpc was imposed in Moreh town in Manipur's Tengnoupal district after four police commandos were injured in an attack by a mob, an official said on Saturday.

The prohibitory orders in Moreh town, which is close to the Indo-Myanmar border, was issued by the District Magistrate of Tengnoupal, Mayanglangbam Rajkumar on Friday evening for one month, the official said.
