Hezbollah head says Lebanon could be 'exposed' to more Israeli attacks

BEIRUT, Jan 5 (Reuters) - The head of Hezbollah said on Friday Lebanon would be "exposed" to more Israeli operations if his powerful Lebanese armed group did not respond to the killing of the deputy chief of Hamas on the outskirts of Beirut.

Saleh al-Arouri was killed in a drone strike on a southern suburb of Beirut on Tuesday, in what some analysts said could also be seen as a message to Hezbollah that its strongholds were vulnerable to attack.

BEIRUT (AP) — The TV station of Lebanon’s Hezbollah group says top Hamas official Saleh Arouri was killed Tuesday in an explosion in a southern Beirut suburb.

Arouri, one of the founders of Hamas’ military wing, had headed the group’s presence in the West Bank. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had threatened to kill him even before the Hamas-Israel war began on Oct. 7.

Israeli officials declined to comment.

Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency said the blast killed four people and was carried out by an Israeli drone.

4 Hezbollah fighters killed in Israeli attacks on S. Lebanon

BEIRUT, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli forces launched five airstrikes and heavy artillery targeting southern Lebanon on Saturday, killing four Hezbollah fighters and wounding two civilians, Lebanese military sources told Xinhua.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Israeli warplanes and drones targeted the town of Marwahin and the villages of Aita al-Shaab and Rmeish in the central sector of southern Lebanon, while the Israeli heavy artillery shelled several villages in both the eastern and western parts of southern Lebanon.

Syrian air defenses repel another Israeli missile attack on Damascus

BEIRUT, December 29. /TASS/: The Israeli Air Force has launched another missile attack on the positions of the Syrian troops near Damascus, the SANA news agency reported, citing a senior Syrian defense official.

According to the source, the Syrian air defense systems opened fire on enemy targets. "Syrian anti-aircraft gunners managed to repel the Israeli aggressive attack, some of the enemy's missiles were hit on the approach to the capital," the defense official said.

Lebanon Approves Historic Social Security Reforms

BEIRUT, Dec 16 (NNN-NNA) – The Lebanese parliament, yesterday, passed a law, to establish a comprehensive pension system for private sector workers, a step that was “delayed for three decades” and considered a “milestone” for the country.

The International Labour Organisation (ILO), said in a statement that, it offered technical support to relevant Lebanese parliamentary committees and the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), to reach a consensus on the law, ensuring its alignment with the standards for social security.

Hezbollah Fighter, Civilian Killed In Confrontations On Lebanon-Israel Border

BEIRUT, Dec 15 (NNN-NNA) – The Lebanese-Israeli confrontations continued yesterday, in the border area, killing a Hezbollah fighter and a civilian, Lebanese military sources said.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that, a Hezbollah fighter and a Lebanese civilian were killed, and another civilian was injured in Israeli airstrikes on the southern villages.

The sources said, Israeli helicopters, drones, and warplanes carried out a series of raids on the outskirts of the villages in southeast Lebanon, destroying eight houses and damaging 21 others.

BEIRUT (AP) — Lebanon’s militant Hezbollah group attacked several Israeli army posts along the two countries’ border and Israel shelled a village in southern Lebanon on Friday, killing two civilians, officials said.

It was the first time Hezbollah launched attacks on Israeli troops along the Lebanon-Israel border since the start of a seven-day truce between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas, an ally of Hezbollah. That cease-fire collapsed on Friday, plunging the Israel-Hamas conflict back into open combat.
