Bishkek, Dushanbe withdraw troops from border to places of permanent deployment

BISHKEK, May 2. /TASS/: Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan have begun to withdraw servicemen and military equipment from the border armed conflict zone, the Border Guard Service of the Kyrgyz State Committee for National Security reported on Sunday.

"The sides began withdrawal of supplementary forces and equipment from the state border line to points of permanent dislocation," the statement said. According to the agency, the situation at the border is "characterized as stable," "no incidents or shootouts have been recorded" overnight.

Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan agree on full ceasefire on the border

BISHKEK, May 1. /TASS/: Heads of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan’s State Committees for National Security Kamchybek Tashiyev and Saymumin Yatimov reached an agreement on a full ceasefire on the border between the two states, Kyrgyzstan’s AKI-press reported citing Tashiyev.

"Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan agreed on a full ceasefire and the pullout of forces," Tashiyev said after talks in the Batkensky region in Kyrgyzstan.

Kyrgyzstan referendum likely to back presidential rule

BISHKEK (Reuters) -Voters in Kyrgyzstan are likely to support handing greater powers to the presidency in a referendum on Sunday, given high public trust in populist head of state Sadyr Japarov.

The constitutional reform will make the political system of the Central Asian nation similar to that of its ex-Soviet neighbours, such as Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, making it easier for Japarov to push through his policies.

Zhaparov takes office as Kyrgyz president

BISHKEK, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Sadyr Zhaparov officially took office as the new Kyrgyz president on Thursday, becoming the sixth president of Kyrgyzstan.

Zhaparov took the oath at an inauguration ceremony at the Kyrgyz National Philharmonic building, and then head of the country's Central Election Commission Nurzhan Shaildabekova handed over the president's certificate and the badge.

Zhaparov said Kyrgyzstan will adhere to a multi-vector foreign policy in his speech.

Sadyr Japarov wins 79.23% of votes in presidential election in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK, January 16. /TASS/: Sadyr Japarov won 79.23% of the vote in the early presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan, the Central Election Commission reported on Saturday.

"79.23% of voters supported Japarov," the statement said, the turnout in the January 10 elections was 39.33%.

According to the CEC, the final voting protocols have been received from all 2,470 polling stations. "Now the results of the elections should be officially approved at a meeting of the Central Election Commission," the department told TASS.

Japarov winning Kyrgyzstan’s presidential elections in first round of voting

BISHKEK, January 10. /TASS/: Sadyr Japarov is winning Sunday’s early presidential elections in Kyrgyzstan, with 76.87% of the vote, the Central Election Commission (CEC) said after counting ballots from 51.01% of polling stations.

It means that no runoff voting will be needed.

According to the CEC data, Adakhan Madumarov is second in the race, with slightly more than six percent of votes.

63 people registered to run for presidency in Kyrgyzstan

BISHKEK, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- Sixty-three people submitted documents to the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Kyrgyzstan to participate in early presidential elections, the press service of the CEC said Sunday.

The deadline for submitting documents to the CEC was Nov. 14.

The commission received documents from 65 people, while two of them withdrew the application. Among the applicants, there are eight women and 55 men, the CEC said.

Kyrgyz president to step down after parliamentary election

BISHKEK, October 14. /TASS/: Kyrgyzstan’s President Sooronbay Jeenbekov plans to resign after a parliamentary election, Tolgonai Stamaliyeva, the presidential spokesperson, said on Wednesday.

"The president will resign as soon as he returns the country to the legal field, or as soon as a parliamentary election is held and a new presidential election is announced," she said.

Kyrgyz parliament approves Sadyr Japarov as new prime minister

BISHKEK, October 10. /TASS/: Members of Kyrgyzstan’s parliament unanimously approved Sadyr Japarov as the country’s new prime minister on Saturday, TASS reported from the scene.

The new prime minister pledged that he had no plans to change "the composition and structure" of a new government and promised not to run in the coming parliamentary election, nor to persecute his political opponents.

"I take full responsibility for the government’s work," he stressed.

Kyrgyz leader orders state of emergency in Bishkek until October 21

BISHKEK, October 9. /TASS/: Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov on October 9 signed an executive order imposing a state of emergency in the capital, Bishkek, starting with 8 pm local time.

"To introduce a state of emergency in the city of Bishkek of the Kyrgyz Republic between 8 pm on October 9 and 8 am on October 21, 2020," Jeenbekov’s press service reported Friday.
