Indian PM Modi's visit to Bangladesh deferred: MEA

New Delhi, Mar 9 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bangladesh next week to attend the birth centenary celebrations of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman has been put off after the commemorative programmes were deferred due to detection of Coronavirus cases in that country, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Monday.

India: Govt invites bids for sale of BPCL

New Delhi, Mar 7 (PTI) In the country's biggest ever privatisation drive, the government on Saturday invited bids for sale of its entire 52.98 per cent stake in India's second biggest oil refiner Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd (BPCL).

Expressions of interest for the strategic sale of BPCL have been invited by May 2, as per the bid document by the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM).

India: Buses, metro to be disinfected on regular basis: Kejriwal

New Delhi, Mar 8 (PTI) The Delhi government has ordered DTC and cluster buses, metro and hospitals to be disinfected on a regular basis as a precautionary measure to deal with the novel coronavirus, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Sunday.

Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal said 168 isolation beds had been set up at 25 hospitals for coronavirus patients. He appealed to the people in Delhi if anybody from their neighbourhood had returned from foreign in the past 14 days, they should inform the government.

India: AAP to start 3-month drive to strengthen base in Goa

Panaji, Mar 7 (PTI) The Aam Aadmi Party, fresh from a resounding victory in the Delhi Assembly polls, will embark on a three-month drive to strengthen its base in Goa, party MLA Atishi said on Saturday.

'Mission Nirman' will begin after the Zilla Parishad polls on March 22 and a 25-member committee headed by Goa AAP leader Valmiki Naik will oversee the programme, she told reporters here.

India: 690 cases registered, nearly 2,200 held for Delhi riots

New Delhi, Mar 7 (PTI) Delhi police said on Saturday they have registered 690 cases and held nearly 2,200 people in connection with last month's communal riots in northeast Delhi which claimed 53 lives and injured over 200.

Of the total cases registered, 48 were related to Arms Act, police said in a statement.

They said 2,193 people have been either detained or arrested in connection with the riots. Of them, 50 have been arrested on charges under the Arms Act.

India: SBI to pick up 49 pc stake in Yes Bank

New Delhi, Mar 6 (PTI) State Bank of India will pick up 49 per cent stake in the crisis-ridden Yes Bank under a government-approved bailout plan, with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman assuring that depositors' money is safe.

A day after imposing moratorium on Yes Bank and restricting withdrawals, the RBI on Friday evening issued a draft reconstruction scheme for the private sector lender and said SBI has "expressed its willingness" to make an investment.
