Ebola outbreak in DR Congo believed to have killed 33: health ministry

5 Aug 2018; AFP; A new outbreak of the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of Congo is believed to have killed 33 people in the east of the country, the health ministry said Saturday.

Thirteen Ebola cases have been confirmed since the fresh outbreak was declared on August 1 in North Kivu province.

While just three of the fatalities have been among the 13 confirmed cases, the death toll is believed to have risen to 33, the health authorities said in a bulletin Saturday.

Fresh Ebola outbreak confirmed in eastern DRC

KINSHASA, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- A new Ebola outbreak has been confirmed in the eastern North Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Health Minister Oly Ilunga said on Wednesday.

"Just one week after announcing the end of the ninth epidemic of Ebola in Equateur province, the Democratic Republic of the Congo is facing a new epidemic, and there is no indication at this stage that two epidemics, separated by more than 2,500 km, are linked," said Ilunga in a statement.
