India: Journalist thrashed by BJP leaders

Raipur, Feb 2 (PTI) A journalist of a Raipur-based website was allegedly beaten up Saturday by BJP functionaries while he was recording a meeting of the party's district-level meeting here, police said.

Based on the complaint by journalist Suman Pandey, who sustained minor injuries to his head, a case has been registered against four persons, including BJP Raipur district president Rajeev Agrawal, a police official told PTI.

Female 'Naxals' killed by cops in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Feb 2 (PTI) A suspected woman naxal was killed and another injured Saturday in an encounter between security forces and ultras in Chhattisgarh, police said.

The skirmish took place early this morning in the forest of Rengaiguda village, around 450 kms from Raipur, under Polampalli police station limits when a joint team of security forces was returning after an area domination operation, Sukma Superintendent of Police Jitendra Shukla told PTI over phone.

India: Woman naxal terrorist gunned down in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Jan 25 (PTI) A woman naxal was gunned down Friday in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, police said.

The gun-battle took place at around 4 pm in the forests under Puspal police station area when a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was returning after carrying out an anti-Maoist operation, Deputy Inspector General (anti-naxal operations) Sundarraj P told PTI.

The DRG is a locally raised force vested with the task to tackle Maoists.

Naxal terrorists torch passenger bus in India

Raipur, Jan 16 (PTI) A group of Naxals allegedly torched a bus in Kasoli village in Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday, after asking passengers to alight, police said.

Three Naxals were arrested in connection with the incident, police said.

Talking to PTI, Dantewada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallav said the incident took place in Geedam tehsil in the district in the morning.

India: Naxal terrorist held in Dantewada, Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Jan 12 (PTI) A Naxal carrying a reward of Rs 3 lakh on his head was arrested in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district, police said Saturday.

Chainu alias Chukla (24) was allegedly part of a Maoist team involved in an attack in Aranpur area in which two policemen and a Doordarshan cameraman were killed on October 30 last year, a senior police official said.

Acting on a tip-off, he was nabbed from Kuakonda police station area by a joint team of the police's special task force (STF) and District Force Friday, the official said.

India: Naxal terrorists kill man after branding him police informer

Raipur, Jan 9 (PTI) A40-year-old villager was allegedly killed bynaxalsin Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Kanker districton suspicion of being a police informer, police said Wednesday.

The body of the victim Suresh Hupendi was found dumped on the outskirts of his village Niche Kamta under Amabeda police station limits this morning, a senior police officer told PTI.

As per preliminary information, a group of naxals stormed into the house of Hupendi on Tuesday evening and forcibly took him along with them, he said.

India: Naxal terrorist killed in encounter with security forces

Chatra (Jharkhand), Jan 4 (PTI) One Maoist activist was killed in an encounter with security forces inside a jungle in the Naxal-affected Chatra district on Friday, a senior police officer said.

Security forces comprising district armed police and the CRPF were on anti-Maoist operation near Gouri under Bashistnagar police station area, when the ultras started firing.

The securitymen retaliated and in the ensuing encounter, one of the Maoist activist was killed, DIG (North Chotanagpur), Pankaj Kamboj told PTI.

India: Maoist terrorist carrying Rs 1 lakh reward arrested by police

Garwah (Jharkhand), Dec 24 (PTI) A Maoist carrying a reward of Rs one lakh on his head, was arrested in Garwah district on Monday, police said.

Laldeo Bhuiyan, an area commander of the CPI(Maoist) was arrested during a search operation launched by the district armed police and CRPF, said Deputy Superintendent of Police, Vijay Kumar.

Bhuiyan, a resident of Aabun village under Panki police station of Palamau district, was wanted by police in connection with several naxal-related incidents in Palamau and Latehar districts, Kumar said.

India: 11 naxal terrorists held from two districts in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, Dec 19 (PTI) As many as 11 Naxals were arrested from two districts in Bastar division of Chhattisgrh on Wednesday, police said.

While seven Naxals were apprehended from Bijapur district, four others held in Narayanpur district, a senior police official told PTI.

"In Bijapur, a joint team of CRPF's 168th battalion, District Reserve Guard (DRG) and local police had launched a search operation in the forest of Basaguda police station area to trace some Naxals wanted in separate cases, following inputs about their movements," he said.
