Brunei steps up monitoring on unexplained acute hepatitis

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Brunei has stepped up monitoring nationwide to detect cases with acute hepatitis of unknown origin among children aged between one month and 16 years old, the health ministry said on Saturday.

According to the ministry, acute hepatitis is not one of the common features of COVID-19 infection in children or a complication of COVID-19 vaccination in children.

The health ministry said no similar cases have been detected in Brunei so far.

Brunei reported 162 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the total tally to 142,627.

Brunei’s Daily COVID-19 Cases Hit Record High For Two Straight Days

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Feb 12 (NNN-ANN) – Brunei reported 981 new COVID-19 cases yesterday, bringing the national tally to 20,454.

This also marks the second consecutive day with a record daily rise of new cases, after 628 cases were reported on Thursday in the country.

According to Brunei’s Ministry of Health, the newly recorded cases included 972 local infections and two import cases.

Brunei Logs 41 New COVID-19 Cases, 16,293 In Total

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Jan 29 (NNN-ANN) – Brunei reported 41 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday, bringing the total tally to 16,293.

According to Brunei’s Ministry of Health, the newly recorded cases included 32 local infections and nine imported cases.

As of Jan 27, 94.8 percent of Brunei’s population have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccines, while 93.9 percent have completed two doses and 39.2 percent have received booster doses.

ASEAN upgrades ties with China, calls Myanmar part of 'family'

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct 28 (Reuters) - The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) said on Thursday it has agreed with China to upgrade their relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership, a day after reaching a similar deal with Australia.

Australia's clinching of the enhanced partnership was a symbolic win for Canberra in beating China to the first such deal with the fast-growing Southeast Asia region, which has become a strategic battleground between Beijing and Washington.

Biden vows to stand with SE Asia in defending freedom of seas, democracy

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct 27 (Reuters) - President Joe Biden said on Wednesday the United States would stand with Southeast Asian allies in defending freedom of the seas, democracy and human rights and backed efforts to hold the Myanmar junta accountable to its commitments to peace.

Southeast Asia has become a strategic battleground between the United States and China, which controls most of the South China Sea and has turned up military and political pressure on fiercely democratic Taiwan, a self-ruled island it considers its own.

President Biden to attend ASEAN-U.S. summit on Tuesday

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct 25 (Reuters) - U.S. President Joe Biden will attend a meeting with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on Tuesday, the U.S. embassy in Brunei told Reuters.

Biden will lead the U.S. delegation for the ASEAN-United States summit, the embassy said. The virtual summit will be held as part of ASEAN leaders' meeting this week.

Brunei To Host ASEAN Summits Via Video Conferencing

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct 23 (NNN-ANN) – Brunei is set to host the 38th and 39th ASEAN Summits and Related Summits in virtual meetings, via a series of video conferences, amid concerns over the unsettled COVID-19 pandemic situation across the region.

Brunei’s Sultan, Haji Hassanal Bolkiah, as Chair of ASEAN for 2021, will chair all 11 ASEAN summits from Oct 26-28, according to a press statement from the Prime Minister’s Office.

Brunei’s Hopes Pegged On Movement Control Measure

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct 5 (NNN-ANN) – Minister of Health, Dr Haji Mohd Isham bin Haji Jaafar said, with the measures taken to control movement, the Sultanate will hopefully see a drop in the number of COVID-19 cases in the coming days.

The enhanced COVID-19 restrictions, Operasi Pulih, commenced at 8:00 pm yesterday and ended at 4:00 am today.

Brunei: ASEAN Energy Chiefs Meet Online To Discuss Energy Security, Transition

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sept 12 (NNN-ANN) – The annual ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) and Associated Meetings, will hold its 39th session via virtual platform from tomorrow to Sept 16.

Brunei Darussalam as the 2021 ASEAN Chair will host the virtual session, which will be presided by Minister of Energy, Dr Haji Mat Suny bin Haji Mohd Hussein, as the 39th AMEM Chair and Cambodian Minister of Mines and Energy, Suy Sem, as Vice-Chair.

The meeting is expected to see the virtual attendance of ASEAN member states (AMS), Dialogue Partners and International Organisations.

ASEAN's Myanmar envoy in talks with junta over visit and access to Suu Kyi

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Sept 4 (Reuters) - The Brunei diplomat appointed by a Southeast Asian regional bloc as its special envoy to Myanmar said on Saturday he is still negotiating with the military on the terms of a visit and has sought access to ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has been trying to end violence in Myanmar and open a dialogue between the military rulers and their opponents following the overthrow of Suu Kyi in February.
