RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec 28 (Reuters) - Nearly two weeks after Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva defeated far-right President Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil's most fraught election in a generation, Milton Baldin arrived in the capital Brasilia to try to overturn the result.

A small business owner from the deep interior of Brazil, Baldin, 55, joined thousands of hardcore Bolsonaro supporters who had set up an encampment outside army headquarters, from where they were urging the military to stage a coup.

Brazil planning to become world’s largest cotton exporter, ahead of US

BRASILIA, Dec 22 (NNN-MERCOPRESS) — Brazil could become the world’s largest cotton exporter in 2023, because of an increase in the planted area helping it to surpass the United States, which could reduce sowing by 30% to make way for competing crops such as corn, soy, and wheat.

Brazilian cotton producers see the sector ready to move forward with next year’s crop, despite higher costs, in order to protect progress in Asian markets, particularly China.

Brazilian financial market cuts inflation forecast for 2022

BRASILIA, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Brazilian financial market cut its inflation forecast for 2022 from 5.79 percent to 5.76 percent and raised it for next year from 5.08 percent to 5.17 percent, the Central Bank of Brazil said Monday.

The country's official inflation target is set at 3.5 percent this year and 3.25 percent next year, with a margin of tolerance of 1.5 percentage points in both cases.

Lula da Silva, who narrowly defeated incumbent Jair Bolsonaro in October elections, unveiled ministers in the key posts of foreign affairs, justice, defense, and chief of staff.

'It hurts my soul': Brazil's Bolsonaro ends post-election silence

BRASILIA, Dec 9 (Reuters) - Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro broke his silence on Friday for the first time since his election defeat on Oct. 30 and spoke to supporters calling for a military coup to stop leftist President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva taking office.

Bolsonaro said he had kept silent for almost 40 days, adding, "it hurts my soul."

"Who decides where I go are you. Who decides which way the armed forces go are you," Bolsonaro told his supporters at the gates of the presidential residence.

SAO PAULO, Dec 3 (Reuters) - Twitter owner Elon Musk said on Saturday he thought it was "possible" that personnel at the social media firm gave preference to left-wing candidates during Brazil's election this year, without providing evidence.

Musk completed his acquisition of Twitter on Oct. 27, just days before Brazil's presidential second round runoff vote, when far-right incumbent Jair Bolsonaro was defeated by leftist Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

Landslide Hit Brazilian Highway, Killed Two, 30 Missing

RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec 2 (NNN-CMA) – The landslide that came down on a motorway in southern Brazil, has left at least 30 people missing, the regional government of the state of Parana said, late on Wednesday.

On Monday, mud tumbled down on the BR-376 motorway, following heavy rains and buried 16 vehicles.

Six people have been rescued, but firefighters have also recovered two bodies, authorities said, adding that, the exact number of victims was yet to be determined.
