EU audit finds Czech PM Babis in conflict of interest

(Reuters) --- Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis breached conflict of interest rules over his control of trust funds linked to his Agrofert business empire, according to a European Commission audit, piling pressure on the billionaire ahead of fall elections.

It means all European Union subsidies awarded to the company after February 2017 -- when a local conflict of interest law came into force -- are considered irregular and should be returned, the auditors said in a final report.

EU urges Russia to overturn decision to block part of Black Sea

EU chief, Hungary's Orban discuss COVID-19 recovery spending

(Reuters) --- European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban will discuss on Friday Budapest's plans for spending its share of the EU's post-COVID-19 economic stimulus - for which Hungary has yet to give final consent.

Hungary is among 10 European Union countries that have not yet approved the plan for the EU executive to borrow an unprecedented 750 billion euros and then disburse money to the 27 member states to help them revive economic growth.

EU countries agree on technical elements of Digital Green Certificate

BRUSSELS, April 22 (Xinhua) -- European Union (EU) members states' representatives have agreed on the technical specifications for the implementation of the Digital Green Certificate, the European Commission said in a press release on Thursday.

The Commission proposed the creation of the certificate last month, in a bid to ease COVID-19 related travel and movement restrictions for people who can prove that they have either been vaccinated, developed natural immunity, or received a negative test result.

EU preparing legal case against AstraZeneca over vaccine shortfalls - sources

(Reuters) --- The European Commission is working on legal proceedings against AstraZeneca (AZN.L) after the drugmaker cut COVID-19 vaccine deliveries to the European Union, sources familiar with the matter said.

The move would mark a further step in an EU plan to sever ties with the Anglo-Swedish company after it repeatedly cut supplies to the bloc, contributing to major delays in Europe's vaccine rollout.

European countries to resume J&J COVID vaccine deliveries

(Reuters) --- European countries prepared on Wednesday to resume deliveries of Johnson & Johnson's (JNJ.N) COVID-19 vaccine and speed up the rollout after Europe's drug regulator backed the shot.

Germany's health ministry said it would start deliveries to federal states for use in vaccination centres shortly, and that family doctors should receive the vaccine from week after next.

EU reaches major climate deal ahead of Biden climate summit

BRUSSELS (AP) — The European Union reached a tentative climate deal that should make the 27-nation bloc climate-neutral by 2050, with member states and parliament agreeing on the targets on the eve of a virtual summit that U.S. President Biden will host.

“Our political commitment to becoming the first climate neutral continent by 2050 is now also a legal commitment. The Climate Law sets the EU on a green path for a generation,” said EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen early Wednesday.

At least 12 EU countries confident of July vaccine target -EU’s Breton

(Reuters) --- At least 12 of the European Union’s 27 member states have said they are confident of being able to vaccinate 70% of their adult population by mid-July, the EU executive’s vaccine task force chief said on Tuesday.

The European Commission has set a target of inoculating 70% of the EU's adult population by the end of this summer, banking on a big increase in vaccine deliveries to accelerate its vaccination drive.
