India: Six Naga separatists killed in encounter in Arunachal Pradesh

New Delhi, July 11 (PTI) Six NSCN(IM) insurgents were killed in an encounter with security forces in Khonsa area of Arunachal Pradesh early on Saturday morning, military sources said.

One soldier of Assam Rifles was injured in the operation and his condition was stated to be stable, they said.

India: BJP wins Arunachal Pradesh Rajya Sabha seat

Itanagar, Jun 12 (PTI) BJP nominee Nabam Rebia won the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday in the absence of any contestants, an official of the state election office said.

Rebia was declared winner after the time for withdrawal of nominations ended on Friday as there was no other candidate in the fray, Joint Chief Electoral Officer D J Bhattacharjee said.

India: Security forces arrest wanted NSCN (IM) militant Puman

Itanagar, May 15 (PTI) A NSCN(IM) militant wanted in connection with the killing of a former MLA and 10 others in Arunachal Pradesh was arrested by security forces from Longding district, an official said.

Personnel of the Indian Army in a joint operation with district police apprehended the rebel identified as self- styled 'Sergeant Major' Puman Wangsu from a forest near Longphong village in the district, Kohima-based Defence spokesman Lt Col Sumit Kumar Sharma informed.

IndiaK No intention to scrap Art 371: Shah assures Northeast

Itanagar, Feb 20 (PTI) Reaffirming the government's commitment to protecting the unique culture of the Northeast, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Thursday misinformation was spread after abrogation of Article 370 that identical fate awaited Article 371 in the region.

Most of the states that have special provisions under Article 371 are in the Northeast. These provisions are aimed at preserving their cultural heritage and customary laws.

India: NAB Bandh hits normal life in Arunachal Pradesh

Itanagar, Dec 10 (PTI) Normal life came to a halt in Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday due to the 11-hour North East bandh called by NESO in protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, which was passed in the Lok Sabha on Monday night.

Educational institutions, banks, commercial establishments and markets were closed while public and private vehicles were off the road in the state in response to the bandh called by the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU), a constituent of North East Students' Union.

India: All stakeholders of Arunachal oppose CAB in present form

Itanagar, Nov 20 (PTI) Political parties, student bodies and community based organizations of Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday "unequivocally" opposed the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in its present form at a meeting here.

The "final meeting" of all the stakeholders also took a resolution that provisions of the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873 and the Chin Hills Regulation, 1896 should be incorporated while amending the Citizenship Act.

The two Regulations protect the indigenous tribal people of Arunachal Pradesh.

India: Chinese army intrudes Arunachal Pradesh and constructs a wooden bridge

Itanagar, Sep 4 (PTI) The Chinese Army intruded into Arunachal Pradesh's remote Anjaw district and constructed a bridge over a stream, the local BJP MP alleged on Wednesday.

Tapir Gao claimed Chinese troops made an incursion into the Indian territory last month and built a bridge over Kiomru Nullah in Chaglagam circle.

Some local youths noticed the bridge on Tuesday.

"The area is approximately 25 km northeast of Chaglagam and is very much inside the Indian territory," Gao said.

India: Wreckage of AN 32 aircraft found in Arunachal

New Delhi, Jun 11 (PTI) The wreckage of the AN-32 aircraft of the Indian Air Force was spotted on Tuesday 16 km north of Lipo in Arunachal Pradesh, eight days after it went missing after taking off from Assam's Jorhat.

The aircraft had 13 people on board and the IAF said efforts are on to establish the status of the occupants.

India: Five days on, no trace of missing AN-32 of IAF

Itanagar, Jun 7 (PTI) There was no breakthrough in the search of the AN-32 aircraft of the Indian Air Force that went missing with 13 persons on board with operations continuing for the fifth day on Friday amid inclement weather, officials said.

IAF spokesperson Wing Commander Ratnakar Singh said despite inclement weather, the joint search operations by IAF, Army and local administrations were continued.

India: Pema Khandu sworn-in as Arunachal Pradesh CM

Itanagar, May 29 (PTI) Senior BJP leader Pema Khandu took oath as the chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday.

Khandu was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Governor Brig (Retd) B D Mishra at the Dorjee Khandu Convention Centre here.

Eleven Cabinet Ministers, including Chowna Mein, were also administered the oath.

Chief Ministers of Assam, Nagaland, Manipur, Tripura and Meghalaya attended the function.
