China a sincere partner for African countries: Rwandan experts

KIGALI, July 25 (Xinhua) -- China remains a sincere partner for most of African countries, Rwandan experts told Xinhua in recent interviews.

China and Rwanda enjoy a long history of friendship and fruitful cooperation in various sectors such as business, health, education, tourism, infrastructure, said Ismael Buchanan, Dean of the School of Economics and Governance at the University of Rwanda.

South African President Hails First Decade of BRICS as a Major Success

JOHANNESBURG, July 26 (NNN-SABC) -- President Cyril Ramaphosa has hailed the first decade of the existence of the BRICS grouping of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa as a major success in the global developmental agenda.

Addressing the opening of the BRICS Business Summit here, the South African head of State said that over the past ten years, the bloc had made enormous strides in a number of co-operation areas including climate change and promoting sustainable development.

South Sudan's conflicting parties ink deal on power-sharing, governance

KHARTOUM, July 25 (Xinhua) -- South Sudan's conflicting parties on Wednesday signed an agreement on power-sharing and governance in Sudan's capital Khartoum.

The agreement, read out by Sudanese Foreign Minister Al-Dirdiri Mohamed Ahmed, said Salva Kiir will continue to serve as President of Sudan during the transitional period, while the opposition leader Riek Machar will assume the position of First Vice President.

There will be four vice presidents from different political parties as stated in the agreement.

Chinese president arrives in South Africa for state visit

PRETORIA, July 23 (Xinhua) -- South Africa rolled out the red carpet for Chinese President Xi Jinping on Monday as he started his third state visit to the "rainbow nation" with the aim of boosting bilateral friendly relations and cooperation.

Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were greeted by high-ranking South African government officials at the airport.

This state visit is the first of its kind South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has hosted since he took office in February this year.

Chinese president arrives in Rwanda for state visit

KIGALI, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived here on Sunday for a state visit to Rwanda, the first by a Chinese head of state to the African country.

Upon their arrival, Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were warmly received by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and his wife Jeannette Kagame.

At the airport, a group of local people in colorful clothes with distinctive ethnic features performed dances and beat drums to greet the honored Chinese guests.

China launches satellite TV project in rural central Uganda

WAKISO, Uganda, July 21 (Xinhua) -- China and the Ugandan government have launched a satellite television (TV) project in the central Ugandan district of Wakiso that will benefit over 500 villages.

Speaking at the launch on Friday, Janet Museveni, minister of education and sports said the initiative would be critical in digital learning.

BRICS think tanks hold seminar on global governance in interests of people

JOHANNESBURG, July 5 (Xinhua) -- More than 120 experts from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) and other southern African countries gathered Wednesday at a seminar here, contributing their wisdom to global governance in the interests of the people.

The theme of the seminar was "Contributing BRICS' Wisdom to Global Governance in the Interests of the People," which reflected the common wish of government leaders, think tank members and corporate executives in the "BRICS Plus" community to promote cooperation and benefit the people.

49 AU members have signed free trade pact: AU chairperson

NOUAKCHOTT, Mauritania, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Forty-nine members of the African Union have signed the African continental free trade area (AfCFTA) agreement, said AU chairperson Paul Kagame on Monday.

Kagame, who is also the Rwandan president, made the announcement in Nouakchott during the closing ceremony of the 31st summit of the 55-member African Union.

South Africa, Sierra Leone, Namibia, Lesotho and Burundi signed the AfCFTA in Nouakchott. Chad and Swaziland ratified the agreement, which brings the total number of ratification to six.
