Afghan police arrest 10 criminal suspects, seize narcotics in Kabul

KABUL, Feb. 12 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan National Police (ANP) operations team has arrested 10 criminal suspects in Kabul and its surrounding districts within the past 48 hours, the Afghan Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.

"A total of 10 suspects involving in different criminal cases were arrested by ANP in Kabul city Police Districts and districts on the outskirts of Kabul province within the last 48 hours," the ministry said in a statement.

The arrestees were taken to the Kabul police headquarters for screening and possible legal process, the statement added.

Suicide bombing near military academy in Kabul kills 6

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A suicide bomber targeting a military academy in the Afghan capital on Tuesday killed at least six people, including two civilians and four military personnel, the Interior Ministry said.

No one immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing in Kabul, but both the Taliban and militants from the Islamic State group regularly stage attacks in the city, targeting Afghan forces.

Along with the six killed, 12 other people, including five civilians, were wounded in the attack, said Nasrat Rahimi, the Interior Ministry spokesman.

10 militants killed in airstrike in E. Afghanistan

KABUL, Feb. 9 (Xinhua) -- At least 10 Taliban militants were killed in an overnight airstrike in Afghanistan's eastern Kunar province, the Defense Ministry said on Sunday.

"The strike conducted in Chawkay district, Kunar province, targeted an enemy position, killing 10 Taliban members," the ministry wrote on Twitter.

The ministry did not provide details on whether the strike was conducted by Afghan Air Force or NATO-led coalition forces.

The province has been the scene of clashes between Taliban and security forces.

US says 2 soldiers killed, 6 wounded in Afghanistan attack

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Two U.S. soldiers were killed and six wounded in a so-called insider attack in eastern Afghanistan’s Nangarhar province late Saturday when an Afghan dressed in an Afghan army uniform opened fire, the U.S. military said.

A member of Nangarhar’s provincial council, Ajmal Omer, told The Associated Press that the gunman was killed. There have been numerous attacks by Afghan national army soldiers on their allied partners during 18 years of America’s protracted war in Afghanistan.

Taliban shadow district chief killed in Afghan army overnight airstrike

KABUL, Feb. 7 (Xinhua) -- Three Taliban militants, including a Taliban shadow district chief, were killed in an overnight Afghan army airstrike in northern Balkh province, the command of special forces said Friday.

"Afghan Air Force airstrike targeted an area in Chimtal district, Balkh province Thursday night. The strike killed Taliban shadow district chief Shah Mohammad Jabar and two Taliban divisional commanders, Mawlawi Qadeem and Hennayat," Afghan National Army Special Operations Corps said in a statement.

Afghans welcome U.S.-Taliban peace dialogue but term it "boring practice"

KABUL, Feb. 3 (Xinhua) -- The war-weary Afghans are supportive of the ongoing U.S.-Taliban talks to end the war in Afghanistan but described the process as a "boring practice" that has yet to deliver.

"It is almost two years that the U.S. special envoy for peace in Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad initiated direct talks with the Taliban to end the war in Afghanistan and also conclude America's longest war in its history but the outcome has yet to be announced," Abdul Bashir, 55, told Xinhua on Monday.

Afghans will need billions more in aid, as US looks to leave

Taliban repel Afghan forces' bid to reach U.S. plane crash site

KABUL (Reuters) - Afghan forces and Taliban fighters clashed in a central region where a U.S. military aircraft crashed, officials said on Tuesday, as the government tried to reach the wreckage site in a Taliban stronghold.

On Monday, the U.S. military said an E-11A aircraft crashed in the province of Ghazni, but disputed Taliban claims to have brought it down, without saying how many were aboard or if any had been killed.

Afghanistan Launches Polio Vaccination Targeting 9.1 Million Children

KABUL, Jan 27 (NNN-AGENCIES) – The Afghan Public Health Ministry, launched a nationwide campaign today (Monday) to give polio vaccination dose to 9.1 million children under the age of five, the ministry said.

The five-day campaign started on Monday (today), in 30 of the country’s 34 provinces. Due to harsh weather, the anti-polio drive will not be conducted in central Bamyan and Daykundi provinces and western Ghor and Badghis provinces.

The drive was launched as 29 polio cases were detected in Afghanistan in 2019.
