TEHRAN, Aug 11 (NNN-IRNA) – The Iranian Navy rescued an Iranian ship, from “unidentified” invading boats, after armed clashes in the Red Sea the night before, the state-run IRIB TV reported yesterday.
Speaking in a televised interview, Rear Admiral Mostafa Tajoddini, deputy commander of the Iranian Navy’s strategic operations, said that, the naval forces immediately rushed to the scene upon receiving a rescue call from the Iranian ship under attack by unidentified boats.
After a heavy exchange of fire with the attacking boats, the Iranian Navy’s escort team, led and commanded by the homegrown Jamaran destroyer, managed to save the vessel after forcing the invaders to retreat, Tajoddini said.
He stressed that, ensuring shipping security and safeguarding the country’s interests in the high seas and oceans are among the main missions of the Iranian Navy, whose escort team constantly patrols the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea.
