India: Street hawking of sacrificial goats comes into sight in Kanpur

Kanpur: A large number of traders come from the villages of the outlying districts for the sale of animals in the city.

According to the traders, Fatehpur, Kalpi, Etawah and Auraiya are the most known destinations.

They also add that animals for sale come from Rajasthan and Gujarat, though they are hesitant that it would be not possible at this festival, they are overheard saying.

One seller Hammad had brought as many as 12 animals from nearby places. Two animals left as 8  were sold by ferrying in the narrower lanes, he disclosed.

The rates are quite exorbitant this festival as one retired person said he bought two goats at higher rates. The rate is up.

Even the seller maintained that stock of sacrificial animals was sold between Rs 12000 and 16000.

The sale of animals reportedly goes by hawking in the city's various localities. It seems the locations for the goat and Buffalo selling will be the same this festival, as many guess.

Markets will be decided at the places after the permission. On average, more than two lakh goats are sold in the city on Bakrid, sources explained.
