India: Kanpur Police stations to have CCTV cameras for clarity

Kanpur: To construct transparency CCTV cameras with sound recorders are being put up at all police stations here. Only police officers will be able to monitor activities happening at police stations via mobiles and ipads.

This structure will come into effect within four days," Additional Commissioner of Police Anand Prakash Tiwari has said.

The work of installing CCTVs began on Tuesday. All the police stations will have this facility in which the entire activities of the police stations will be caught, reports said.

"Good quality sound recording CCTV cameras are being installed in all police stations in Kanpur so that transparency can be built," said ACP Anand Prakash Tiwari.

There was no sound recording cameras at any police station.

Because of this, many times the conversations of the policemen with the accused or the complainants could not be traced.

The relatives of inmates sometimes accuse the police of misbehaving in the police station, but due to lack of evidence, the truth cannot come out.

This exercise has been started to overcome this problem.

Recently, the National Commission for Women (NCW) sent a notice to the Kanpur Police Commissioner to take strict action against the policemen who were involved in allegedly assaulting an elderly maid to confess her crime in the Madhu Kapoor murder case.
