BERLIN, June 24 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken called for the withdrawal of foreign forces from Libya as part of the Berlin summit on the pacification of the country.

“The October 23 ceasefire agreement must be fully implemented, including the withdrawal of all foreign forces from Libya,” Blinken said during a Wednesday joint press conference with German counterpart Heiko Maas.

“We share (with Germany) the objective of a sovereign, stable, unified and secure Libya, free from foreign interference. This is what the people deserve and is essential for regional security”, underlined the US Secretary of State, whose European trip starts Wednesday in Berlin.

Representatives of the main countries involved in the Libyan conflict are meeting in the German capital, at a meeting attended by Antony Blinken.

In December, the United Nations estimated that around 20,000 mercenaries and foreign fighters were in Libya, including Russians from the private Wagner group, fighters from Chad, Sudan and Syria.

A few hundred Turkish soldiers are also present in the conflict, under an agreement signed with the former Executive of Tripoli.
