Kanpur: Now, the upkeep of Jajmau Sewerage Treatment Plant running with a capacity of treating 130 MLD polluted water has been taken over by a private company. So far it was managed by Jal Nigam.
The handover procedures were completed in the presence of Jal Nigam GM B K Garg and Company's Project manager M Ray.
The employees who were constantly opposing the privatisation process raised their voice against loss of job. As many as 150 employees were present at the time of plant handover.
They demanded their job in the new set up be restored. Attentively thinkin of their discontent, the ACM II A Rathore helped them by providing a job to a total of 50 employees in the private company. As many as 25 employees were put into service whereas 25 of them were assured of the job following government's recommendations for the appointment.
Besides it was also decided that the Jal Nigam would employ 20 employees.
G Chowdhary, Project manager, Ganga Pollution Control Unit, said the private company will repair and renovate the treatment plant at a cost Rs 30 Crore within a period of 18 months. Afterwards the company will look after maintenance and operation of the plant for a period of 15 long years.
There is also a possibility of handing over of 43 MLD and 5 MLD sewerage plants in private hands.
