India: Infant dies as slips into hospital toilet at Hallet Hospital

Kanpur: In a bizarre incident an infant slipped into the hole of the commode of Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital here on Friday.

The doctors at the hospital apparently refused to admit a pregnant woman, Haseen Bano, 30, when she came to the emergency ward.

Her husband Moin pleaded with the doctors as his wife went into labour.

When the pain became unbearable, the woman went to the toilet, where she delivered the baby, but the infant slipped and the head got stuck in the hole of the seat.

Although the hospital staff plunged into action and broke the commode seat but the infant had died by then.

Unlucky was the parents who could not bear the loss of a newborn child. First, the doctors were refusing to admit and then the tragedy snatched the happiness.

Though Dr Sanjay Kala, Principal, Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi Memorial Medical College has ordered a probe following forming a committee. It will be apt to know that the Lala Lajpat Hospital is connected with the College.

"The issue is serious. A committee has been constituted to investigate the entire matter. Strict action will definitely be taken against the guilty," said Dr Kala.
