India's two-wheeler, power companies to co-build electric charging infrastructure

MUMBAI, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- India's two-wheeler company TVS Motor and Tata Power have formed a partnership to build the two-wheeler charging infrastructure in order to accelerate electric mobility in the South Asian country.

The two companies said in a joint statement issued on Tuesday that the partnership aims to create a regular electric charging network for two-wheelers so as to further drive the electric vehicle use in India.

The two sides also said they will explore the opportunities to use solar energy to power select TVS Motor locations in efforts towards sustainability.

"Fitting to TVS Motor vision of electrification, we envisage a wide and reliable charging infrastructure for two and three-wheeler EV customers across India, powered by renewable sources of energy such as solar," said Sudarshan Venu, joint managing director at the TVS Motor Company.

"Through this collaboration, we will further leverage our expertise to enhance synergy between sustainable mobility and renewable energy integration resulting in the creation of robust EV charging eco-system across India," said Praveer Sinha, chief executive officer and managing director of Tata Power.

Tata Power has established a network of over 5,000 home chargers and over 700 public chargers in more than 120 Indian cities.

The Indian government has set a target to be a 100 percent electric vehicle nation by 2030.
