India: Traffic Signal Countdown Timer rules at Kanpur city's two crossings

Tatmill crossing in Kanpur

Kanpur: Strangely enough, only two screens of the timer display remain functional while the other 62 road crossings either the timers are inactive or its settings are faulty.

The height of the matter is that the riders are not able to understand as to which crossing manages the operation of the traffic through the timer or which crossing lets the vehicle pass without the time indicator.

This confusion irks the people moving on the road crossings. Countdown timers are digital displays to indicate the time requiring for the next change of signal sequence.

Since the superior scheme of the police commissionerate in the district, the traffic police have been paying attention to bring improvement in the traffic system.

What is the drawback is that the timer does blink several times during the day which causes problems to the road users.

According to the traffic department there are functioning merely two timers one at Bada Chauraha and the second at Tatmill Chauraha in the city areas.

There are timers display installed at crossings which blink multiple times in the daytime. Despite defining a traffic signal countdown timer or T S C T, it is said that it is a clock that digitally displays the time remaining for the current stoplight indication but if it does not serve its very purpose the chances of mishaps rise, so say analysts.
