Iran suggests holding referendum on creation of independent Palestinian state

21 Dec 2022; MEMO: Iran has suggested holding a referendum on creation of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, news agencies reported yesterday.

This came as Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian addressed the second round of the Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership held in Jordan.

He also reiterated the Islamic Republic's solidarity with the Palestinian cause and said the issue of Palestine was the "primary issue" of the Muslim world.

Jordan bans TikTok amid protests over fuel prices

18 Dec 2022; MEMO: Jordan has imposed a temporary ban on popular social media platform TikTok amid violent protests over fuel price hikes, reports Anadolu Agency.

In a statement, the Public Security Directorate said the widely used but controversial platform was suspended as it was used "for glorifying hate speech and for inciting chaos, attacking law enforcement agencies, and property and blocking roads."

Jordan, Turkiye discuss military cooperation

13 Dec 2022; MEMO: Jordan's Chief of Staff Yousef Huneiti met the Turkish Ambassador to the kingdom, Ismail Aramaz, yesterday to discuss military cooperation between the two countries.

The kingdom's army said in an official statement that the officials discussed "cooperation and coordination, and ways to enhance bilateral relations to serve the interests of the armed forces of the two countries."

The meeting was attended by a "number of senior Jordanian military officers," it added in its statement.

Jordan, Iraq, Egypt Discussed Ways To Boost Cooperation, Coordination

AMMAN, Dec 8 (NNN-PETRA) – The foreign ministers of Jordan, Egypt and Iraq, held a meeting yesterday in the Jordanian capital to discuss ways to boost the trilateral cooperation.

During their meeting in Amman, Jordan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ayman Safadi, Iraqi Foreign Minister, Fuad Hussein and Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, looked into ways to enhance cooperation and increase coordination mechanisms in the political, economic, commercial, industrial, security and other fields, according to a joint statement issued by Jordan’s Foreign Ministry.

Protesters storm governor's office in southern Syrian city, two killed in clashes

AMMAN, Dec 4 (Reuters) - Dozens of demonstrators angry over worsening economic conditions in Syria stormed and ransacked the governor's office in the southern city of Sweida on Sunday, clashing with police, the authorities and witnesses said.

Earlier, more than 200 people had gathered around the building in the centre of the Druze-majority city, chanting slogans calling for the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar Assad, they said, amid spiralling prices and economic hardship.

UN Food Organisation Launched Project To Build Jordan’s Climate Change Resilience

AMMAN, Nov 10 (NNN-PETRA) – The Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), in Jordan, yesterday launched a project, to strengthen Jordan’s ability to cope with climate change, according to an FAO press release.

The seven-year project, “Building resilience to cope with climate change, through improving water use efficiency, in the agriculture sector,” was launched during a workshop, attended by Jordanian Agriculture Minister, Khaled Hneifat, and FAO Director-General, Qu Dongyu.

Jordan: Massive march in support of Palestine resistance

05 Nov 2022; MEMO: Thousands of Jordanians on Friday attended a massive march organised by the Islamic movement in Amman to show support for Palestinian resistance in the occupied West Bank, Quds Press reported.

The march marked the 105th anniversary of the British Balfour Declaration, which promised to establish a Jewish state on the land of Palestine.

Marchers condemned the Balfour Declaration and deplored Arab and international indifference towards the Palestinian cause, Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Jordan seeks more coordination with Russia to bring stability to southern Syria

03 Nov 2022; MEMO: Jordan and Russia have agreed to step up coordination in tackling instability in southern Syria, which Amman blames on Iran-linked militias and multi-billion dollar drug smuggling across its border, Jordan's Foreign Minister said on Thursday, Reuters reports.

Ayman Al Safadi was speaking after talks with Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, that centred on south Syria to "neutralise the potential dangers of instability" in the area.
