USA: Black voters carry Biden to his first victory

WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden has for weeks looked to the black voters of South Carolina to hand a win to his flagging campaign. On Saturday, they delivered.

Biden won 60% of the votes cast by non-white voters, dominating a crowded Democratic field among a group that made up more than half of the electorate. Biden also performed strongly with older voters, women, regular churchgoers and moderates and conservatives, according to AP VoteCast, a wide-ranging survey of more than 1,400 voters in South Carolina’s Democratic primary.

Trump appoints VP Pence to oversee US response to COVID-19 outbreak

WASHINGTON, Feb 27 (NNN-Xinhua) — US President Donald Trump appointed Vice President Mike Pence to oversee the country’s response to the novel coronavirus outbreak.

“I’m going to be announcing exactly right now that I’m going to be putting our Vice President Mike Pence in charge,” Trump said at the White House briefing room, citing Pence’s experience with health care policy.

Trump said the virus’s threat to the U.S. public “remains very low,” but the country is “very, very ready” for whatever the coronavirus threat brings.

US’ Sanders may return Israel embassy back to Tel Aviv

26 Feb 2020; MEMO: US presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders said he would consider moving the US embassy from occupied Jerusalem back to Tel Aviv.

During a Democratic Party primaries debate in South Carolina, Sanders was asked about American Jews who are “worried” he is not supportive enough of Israel, and if he’d move the embassy back to Tel Aviv, he said it would be something he would take into consideration.

He also doubled down on his view that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is a racist.

2 families sue Libya’s Haftar for ‘war crimes’

26 Feb 2020; MEMO: Two Libyan families have filed a lawsuit against the head of eastern army, General Khalifa Haftar, accusing him of torture and committing “war crimes”.

Renowned American lawyer, Kevin Carroll, who represents the Al-Suyids and the Al-Krshinys families, said his clients were tortured in Libya and had members of their families killed by Haftar’s forces, adding that “Haftar will pay the price of the crimes he had committed”.

U.S. Voters Highly Concerned About Growing National Debt

WASHINGTON, Feb 26 (NNN-XINHUA) – American voters are highly concerned about the rise in national debt, as the 2020 presidential campaign gets underway, according to a survey released by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation.

About 72 percent of Americans say, their concern about national debt increased over the past few years, and 84 percent want the president and Congress to spend more time addressing the issue, the survey showed.

Bernie Sanders slams Trump for selling weapons to India

Washington, Feb 25 (PTI) Democratic presidential front-runner Senator Bernie Sanders on Monday slammed President Donald Trump for selling weapons to India, saying that the US should instead partner with New Delhi to fight climate change to save the planet.

Sanders, who has won the Nevada and New Hampshire primaries and tied in Iowa, made the comments after Trump, who is on a two-day visit to India, on Monday announced that the US will sign defence trade deals worth USD 3 billion with India.

US administration weighs emergency funds to combat coronavirus

WASHINGTON, Feb 25 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The US government is considering asking legislators for emergency funding to ramp up its response to the fast-spreading coronavirus, a White House spokesman said.

“We need some funding here to make sure that we … protect all Americans, that we keep us safe,” White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said.

Asked how much funding the administration may ask Congress to approve, Gidley said that there was no announcement yet on the amount.

USA: Sanders would 'absolutely' use military if needed

Washington, Feb 24 (AFP/PTI) Democratic candidate Bernie Sanders has said that if elected president he would "absolutely" use the military if warranted, both to protect US interests and to support its allies.

He also said he would be willing to meet with the North Korean dictator, Kim Jong Un, as President Donald Trump has done.
