China's Xi meets Vietnam leaders in second day of state visit to Hanoi

HANOI, Dec 13 (Reuters) - China's President Xi Jinping will meet Vietnamese leaders on Wednesday on the second day of a state visit to Hanoi, during which dozens of deals have been announced, including on diplomatic ties, railways and telecommunications.

His first trip to Vietnam in six years came after the visit of U.S. President Joe Biden in September, in a sign of the increasing importance of the Southeast Asian manufacturing hub amid trade tensions between the two global powers.

Vietnam Sends Over 132,000 Labourers Abroad In 10 Months

HANOI, Nov 8 (NNN-VNA) – Vietnam sent more than 132,000 labourers abroad, in the first 10 months of this year, surpassing the target set for the year by 20 percent, it was reported today.

According to the Department of Overseas Labour, under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MOLISA), among those workers, 44,669 were female, accounting for nearly 30 percent.

Japan remained the top destination for Vietnamese guest workers.

About 21,100 Vietnamese labourers were sent abroad in Oct alone, according to statistics, from the enterprises.

Vietnam capitalizes on FTAs to boost exports: minister

HANOI, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam has cashed in on free trade agreements (FTAs) which helps bring its products to 60 countries and territories worldwide, Vietnam News Agency reported Tuesday, citing Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien.

Responding to questions on measures to enhance export at the national assembly's ongoing meeting in capital city Hanoi on Tuesday, he said Vietnam had capitalized on the FTAs it has signed to bolster exports amid weakening demand, high input costs and inflation pressure across the globe.

Three Swept Away By Floods In Central Vietnam

HANOI, Oct 31 (NNN-VNA) – Two people died and another remains missing, after they were swept away by floods, yesterday, in Vietnam’s central province of Ha Tinh, according to the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.

Among the three victims, two women, aged 29 and 33, were swept away on their way home through a rainstorm after work in Huong Khe. Another dead victim was a 13-year-old boy.

Vietnam’s central region experienced torrential rain over the past two days, under the influence of cold air and high-altitude eastern winds.

Vietnam’s Dengue Fever Cases Nearing 100,000

HANOI, Oct 18 (NNN-VNA) – Vietnam reported 99,639 dengue fever cases with 27 deaths, since the beginning of this year, the health ministry said, yesterday.

The number of new dengue cases over the past week has decreased compared to the previous week.

However, the infection number in the capital city Hanoi, has shown no sign of declining.

Since the end of last month, the infection rate in Hanoi has increased sharply, standing around 2,500-2,600 cases per week, an increase of 1.5 times compared to the first week of Sept.

China, Vietnam prepare for possible Xi visit to Hanoi in next month, sources say

HANOI/BEIJING, Oct 6 (Reuters) - Vietnamese and Chinese officials are preparing for a possible visit from President Xi Jinping to Hanoi at the end of October or early November, on the heels of U.S. President Joe Biden's trip in September, four people familiar with the plans said.

Vietnam: Witnesses say victims of a Hanoi high-rise fire jumped from upper stories to escape the blaze

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — Ten children were among the 56 people killed in a blaze in a Hanoi high-rise, police said Thursday, which some residents desperately tried to escape by jumping out of upper stories, according to witnesses.

Authorities have still not released the cause of the fire, which broke out just before midnight Tuesday and wasn’t extinguished until Wednesday morning in the nine-story apartment building in Vietnam’s capital.

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — A fire in a nine-story apartment building in Vietnam’s capital killed at least 56 people, including at least four children, and injured at least 37, authorities said Wednesday

The fire started just before midnight Tuesday in a building housing about 150 residents. Firefighters contained the blaze, but the building’s location at end of a narrow alley made rescue operations difficult. Dozens of people remained trapped in the building until after dawn, state media reports said.
