India: J-K BJP leader quits party over 'neglect'

Jammu, Nov 27 (PTI) BJP's Jammu and Kashmir unit publicity secretary Arun K Chibber announced his resignation from the basic membership of the party on Saturday over alleged neglect and humiliation.

Addressing a press conference here, the 65-year-old Chibber said he "remained associated with the party for over 40 years, working with full dedication and devotion".

Kashmir 'encounter': CPI(M) urges civil society to seek return of body to family

Jammu, Nov 22 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir unit of CPI(M) on Monday asked the civil society of Ramban and adjoining areas to come forward and demand the return of the body of Amir Magray -- the third person killed in the Hyderpora encounter last week -- and whose kin claim he was innocent.

The Left party has been pressing for a judicial probe into the controversial encounter in Srinagar and return of the body of Magray, a resident of Gool area of Ramban, who was among four persons killed in the incident on November 15.

India: Strike disrupts normal life in Kashmir after 2 civilians killed by security forces in alleged fake encounter

Srinagar, Nov 19 (PTI) Normal life was affected in the Kashmir valley on Friday due to a strike called by the Hurriyat Conference to express solidarity with the families of the civilians killed in the Hyderpora encounter earlier this week, officials said.

Most of the shops, fuel stations and other business establishments in Srinagar were shut, the officials said.

Public transport was largely off the roads, but private cars and auto rickshaws were seen plying in some areas of the city, they said.

Kashmir: PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti placed under house arrest - again

Srinagar, Nov 18 (PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday claimed she was put under house arrest, while two of her party colleagues were arrested by the police.

The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said her party chief spokesperson Suhail Bukhari and spokesperson Najmu Saqib were arrested.

Again under house arrest & PDPs @SAAQQIIB & @Suhail_Bukhari too have been arrested, she wrote on Twitter and posted pictures of the locked gate of her residence.

Jammu and Kashmir passing through a most difficult phase: Gupta

Jammu, Nov 12 (PTI) National Conference provincial president Rattan Lal Gupta on Friday said Jammu and Kashmir was passing through a most difficult phase and asked the partymen to shoulder responsibilities of steering it to peace and political stability.

He said the people were looking towards the National Conference with hope and, therefore, it is incumbent upon the cadre to meet their aspirations and expectations.

India: Migrant employees seek time to rejoin duties in Kashmir

Jammu, Nov 12 (PTI) Kashmiri migrant employees on Friday held a protest here seeking time from the administration to rejoin their duties in the Valley, saying they are facing a threat to their lives.

However, Relief Commissioner A K Pandita said it has become a habit of the employees to flee the valley whenever there is any untoward incident.
