India: Man awarded 8 years in jail for raping girl in Jammu

Jammu, Oct 1 (PTI) A court on Friday awarded rigorous eight years imprisonment to a man and a fine of Rs 50,000 for raping a girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district.

The convict, Ashish Rajput, who had kidnapped the girl before sexually assaulting her, was also awarded three years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 25,000 by the Sessions Court of Udhampur in that case.

The court also awarded six months imprisonment and a Rs 10,000 fine for wrongful confinement of the victim, an official spokesman said.

India: Kashmiri leader Mehbooba placed under house arrest again

Srinagar, Sep 29 (PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday claimed that she has been put under house arrest again as she had planned to visit Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir.

The former chief minister had on Tuesday alleged that Army personnel had thrashed a family in Tral town of Pulwama and injured a female member. Mufti said she was going to meet the family on Wednesday.

India: 2 Kashmiris killed by Indian Sec Forces in Bandipora district of Indian Administered Kashmir

Srinagar, 26 Sep 2021: Two Kashmiris were killed on Sunday by Indian security forces in Bandipora district of the Indian Administered Kashmir, Indian officials said.

Local police alleged that one of the Kashmiri was involved in the killing of BJP leader Waseem Bari and two of his family members.

India: Assembly polls in J-K likely early next year: BJP leader

Jammu, Sep 25 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir BJP president Ravinder Raina on Saturday said the assembly elections in the union territory would likely be held early next year after the completion of the delimitation exercise.

He said the supporters of terrorism are the enemies of the people of the union territory and would be treated in accordance with the law of the land which is equal for everyone -- whether a government employee, politician or an ordinary citizen.

India: Centre disempowering people of Kashmir: Mehbooba

Srinagar, Sep 24 (PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Friday said the Centre was disempowering the people of Jammu and Kashmir and suspecting them for having alleged links with militants is the new excuse used to dispossess and humiliate Kashmiri.

She was reacting to the recent termination of six government employees on charges of alleged anti-national activities.

India: J-K admin terminates services of judge, no reasons given

Srinagar, Sep 11 (PTI) The Jammu and Kashmir government has terminated services of civil judge with immediate effect.

An order to this effect was issued on Friday by the secretary, Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, on the directions of the J-K Lieutenant Governor.

India: Four of family killed in cloudburst in J-K's Baramulla

Srinagar, Sep 12 (PTI) Four members of a nomad family, including three minors, were killed when a cloudburst occurred in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Sunday.

The cloudburst occurred in the upper belt of Dangiwacha at Hamam Marcoot in Sopore area of the north Kashmir district on Saturday night, the officials said.

Police and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams rushed to the spot and four bodies have been recovered, they said.

India: Kashmir leader Mehbooba Mufti under house arrest again

Srinagar, Sept 7 (PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday claimed that she has been placed under house arrest, and said the move has exposed the government's claims of normalcy.

The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister also posted on Twitter pictures of a security force vehicle blocking the main gate of her Gupkar residence here.

"Ive (I have) been placed under house arrest today because according to admin(istration) the situation is far from normal in Kashmir. This exposes their fake claims of normalcy," she tweeted.
