India: Sacking of 11 J-K govt employees arbitrary move: NC

Srinagar, Jul 11 (PTI) The National Conference (NC) on Sunday denounced the dismissal of 11 government employees by the Jammu and Kashmir administration, saying the move was "blind to justice" and "arbitrary" in nature.

The employees, including sons of Hizbul Mujahideen chief Syed Salahuddin who has been designated a global terrorist by the US, were sacked by the union territory's administration for allegedly working for various terror groups, officials had said on Saturday.

India: Disappointed at outcome of all-party meet on J-K: PAGD

Srinagar, Jul 5 (PTI) The People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) on Monday expressed disappointment over the outcome of the recent all-party meeting on J-K chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying there was lack of substantial confidence building measures like release of political and other prisoners.

India: Restore J&K's statehood before polls: PAGD

Srinagar, Jul 5 (PTI) The People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) on Monday said assembly elections should be held only after restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir and asked the BJP-led central government to honour its commitment made on the floor of Parliament.

As far as the restoration of statehood is concerned, it has been BJPs commitment on the floor of Parliament and they must honour their word, alliance spokesperson and CPI(M) leader M Y Tarigami said in a statement.

India: Drones banned in Srinagar

Srinagar, Jul 4 (PTI) A week after a drone attack at an Air Force base in Jammu, authorities in Srinagar on Sunday banned the sale, possession and use of such unmanned aerial vehicles in the city.

Earlier, authorities in border districts of Rajouri and Kathua in the Jammu region had put curbs on the use of drones and other UAVs in the wake of the terror attack last Sunday.

Two explosives-laden drones had crashed into the Indian Air Force station at Jammu airport and there were other suspicious sightings of UAVs, triggering a security alert.

India: Dozen houses gutted in fire in J&K village

Banihal/Jammu, Jun 29 (PTI) At least a dozen houses were gutted in a massive fire that broke out in a remote village in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district on Tuesday, officials said, adding no injuries were reported in the incident.

It started in a house and spread to others in the densely populated Hijwa village of Khari, 28 km from Banihal sub-division, around 11 am.

The army and police reached the spot to assist local volunteers to douse the flames, officials said, adding fire tenders from Banihal town were also pressed into service.

Indian Govt hands over probe into Jammu airport drone attack to NIA

New Delhi, Jun 29 (PTI) The government on Tuesday handed over the probe into the drone attack on the Jammu air force station to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Explosives were dropped on the Indian Air Force station in Jammu by two drones in the early hours of Sunday, injuring two personnel.

The investigation into the attack on the Jammu air force station has been handed over to the NIA, a Home Ministry spokesperson said.
