India: UPSIC to help LLR in nurses' recruitment

KANPUR: Paucity of nurses will settle soon in the Lala Lajpat Rai Hospital and its associated hospitals here. There has been decided to recruit as many as 150 Para-medical staff through outsourcing. The UPSIC will extend its complete support. So far a total of 143 staff nurses have been providing their services in the Hallet and its associated hospitals. Their scarcity sometimes causes a problem to the patients for even taking an injection.

India: Hosiery units to stop work in view of Kumbh

KANPUR: Nearly 51 textile factories will now stop production up to March 4. These industrial units do not have a zero discharge system. The wastes of these plants are directly falling into the Ganges. In absence of non-tapping of the ICI Drain and the Gunda Nullah, the effluents are directly going down through these streams into the Pandu River which later merges into the Ganges. This cannot be allowed until the Kumbh Mela in Allahabad.

Bulandshahr violence: Key accused Yogesh Raj arrested

Meerut (UP), Jan 3; PTI: Yogesh Raj, a key accused in the mob violence in Bulandshahr in which a police inspector and a civilian were killed, has been arrested, police said Thursday.

Raj, the local convenor of Bajrang Dal has been absconding since the violence on December 3. He was arrested around 11.30 pm on Wednesday night from the Khurja T-point on National Highway 91, the police said.

Now, UP BJP leader says Lord Hanuman a Vaishya

Meerut (UP), Jan 3 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh BJP leader Vineet Agarwal Sharda has said Lord Hanuman belonged to the Vaishya community, weeks after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath termed the Hindu deity a Dalit.

Talking to PTI Thursday, Sharda claimed the Vaishya community and Lord Ram come from the same lineage and Lord Hanuman is the adopted son of Lord Ram.

Sharda, however, evaded reply to a question on Adityanath's remarks.

India: Ayodhya litigant seeks CJI's impeachment

Ayodhya, Jan 3 (PTI) Ahead of a Supreme Court hearing on Friday in the Ayodhya dispute, a mahant who says he is a party to the case has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking impeachment proceedings against Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi.

In a letter that is also addressed to Congress chief Rahul Gandhi and BJP president Amit Shah, Mahant Dharam Das has accused the Chief Justice of India of showing disinterest in the title suite.

Yashwant Sinha, Arun Shourie move SC on Rafale verdict

New Delhi, Jan 2 (PTI) Former Union ministers Yashwant Sinha and Arun Shourie and advocate Prashant Bhushan Wednesday moved the Supreme Court, seeking review of its December 14 verdict dismissing all PILs alleging irregularities in the procurement of 36 Rafale jets from France.

In their review plea, they alleged that the judgment "relied upon patently incorrect claims made by the government in an unsigned note given in a sealed cover" to the apex court.

They have also sought that the plea be heard in an open court.

Automated machines to wash rly racks

KANPUR: The Railways cared a fig for passengers’ thirst but it has been pondering over saving wastage of water in the washing of its racks daily. Now, automatic washing machines will solve the purpose only after the Railways Board approves the proposal.

As many as 4500 litres of water in the cleaning of three racks with 24 to 26 bogies are being used manually. It will take only 1500 litres of water if cleaned by automated machines.

India: Chhattisgarh gets new chief secy

Raipur, Jan 2 (PTI) In a sudden move, the newly-elected Congress government in Chhattisgarh replaced the state's chief secretary, Ajay Singh, with Sunil Kujur, a 1986-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, on Wednesday night.

According to an order issued by the government, Singh, a 1983-batch IAS officer who was appointed as the chief secretary in January 2018, has been made the chairman of the Revenue Board, Bilaspur.

KANPUR: When the name of Havelock Island in Andaman & Nicobar was renamed, it erased the memory of barbarity connected with that Brigadier General in Kanpur during 1857. Although Kanpur is famous for different features at present yet the fierce fight between Peshwa Nanrao army and the British forces cannot be forgotten. The Massacre Ghat is an open example of the past incident.
