New Delhi, December 26; GANASHAKTI: The National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled (NPRD) strongly condemns the thrashing of a disabled youth by a BJP leader in Uttar Pradesh.

The beating up of the youth merely because he did not subscribe to the BJP’s ideology and voiced his opinion openly, is a reflection of the times that we are living in – in a climate of increasing intolerance and hate. By this wanton act they have made it abundantly clear that anyone challenging their views and defying their diktats will be “punished”.

Lucknow, Dec 26 (PTI) At a time when the opposition has alleged that the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh is more focused on cows than human lives, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the officials concerned to make immediate arrangements for proper care of stray cows.

He has also ordered clearing of grazing grounds in different parts of the state from encroachments.

Bahraich (UP), Dec 26 (PTI) Ace golfer Jyoti Randhawa was arrested Wednesday on charges of poaching in the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve's protected area in Uttar Pradesh, an officer said.

Equipment used for hunting, a .22 bore rifle and a deer hide were seized from the international golfer, field officer Ramesh Pandey said.

Muzaffarnagar, Dec 25 (PTI) A fast track court here has held a man guilty in a rape case that took place in 2011 and sentenced him to 10 years in prison.

Judge Manoj Kumar Mishra also imposed a fine of Rs 13,000 on the accused, Sanoj Kumar, after holding him guilty under sections 376, 506 and 342 of the IPC on Monday.

KANPUR: Angered with the police personnel’s sudden change in behaviour, the villagers could not control themselves and beat them with lathi and danda. The police reached Sachendi village in Ghatampur Block of Kanpur Nagar district on Sunday. The police freed one person who was taken hostage by the villagers for molesting a woman.

Police freed the accused Rajkumar and this heedlessness infuriated the villagers who beat them severely.

However, he dismissed his party colleagues' attempts at identifying Lord Hanuman's caste and said gods don't have castes.

Muzaffarnagar, Dec 24 (PTI) An accused in the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Sikheda village here, police said Monday.

Sodan Singh's body was found Sunday evening hanging from the ceiling of a room, which housed a tube well, they said.

The body was sent for postmortem and the matter is being investigated, police said.

Singh's son has lodged a complaint at the local police station and alleged that his 60-year-old father was murdered, they said.
