135 IIT-K students terminated

KANPUR: Furore engulfs the Indian Institute of Technology as the institution's administration has decided to terminate as many as 135 students for failing to do well in examinations. This decision was taken at the institute’s senate meeting here on Monday. A total of 150 cases related with the students were received at the Senate meeting. 

India: Woman burnt to death over dowry demand in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Dec 15 (PTI) A woman was allegedly burnt to death by her in-laws over dowry demand in Bhopa village in the district, police said Saturday.

According to a complaint lodged by the woman's father Friday, he alleged that his daughter was burnt alive by her in-laws when she failed to fulfil their dowry demands.

Police has registered a case against the woman's husband, Station House Officer B P Singh said.

The father and the brother of the man are absconding and search is on to trace them, he said.

India: 2 arrested in gang rape-murder of Dalit teen

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Dec 16 (PTI) Two people have been arrested in connection with the gang rape and murder of a 15-year-old Dalit girl in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district seven months ago, police said Sunday.

Kuldeep and an woman, Malti, were arrested on Saturday in connection with the incident at a village in Purkazi block in May, the police said.

India: Driver's mistake causes cleaner's death

KANPUR: A (khalasi) cleaner died after coming under a moving truck’s wheels in Bidhnu on Thursday late night. A 20-year-old Moolchand r/o village Barmauti in Mahoba arrived by a loaded truck in Kanpur from Hamirpur. On account of some work, he stopped along with the truck driver Brijesh at the Shambhala Phatak. While stepping up the truck cabin during the nighttimes he fell down after misbalancing. As the truck driver suddenly sped up the vehicle, he came under the heavy tyres.

India: BJP workers show rowdy behaviour

KANPUR: The BJP workers entangled into a scuffle during the Kamal Sandesh Yatra taken out by the BJP here on Friday. They disagreed as harshly as their challenge ended in beating one another. What was more surprising was the presence of the party’s senior leaders on the spot. A written complaint has been filed by the quarrelling groups at the police station.
